Someone "fixed" this a while back with some mig. You gotta be spot on when you mig aluminum or it turns out like this. It was a cold and dirty weld. I ground and cleaned up all the gunk ans used TIG for the added temperature control needed. It's nice and strong now.

Pretty close. I would like a little $ to buy toys.

It been a while since I have welded any pipe. The pipe was real low to the ground and got hit by a brush hog. So I cleaned it up, cut the bad section off and welded on a new section to bring the pipe up more. I only did a partial pe*******on weld to avoid blasting crap into the pipe. Luckily the electrical wires were extra long so installing the new cap was easy. 6010 is one of the tougher to learn/master but once you it makes life so much easier.

So the tube got recked and fixed before i got to it and I forgot to get some pics of the cutting and forming process on the flat sheet. About 1/16" thick, lots of side relief cuts, heating/beating to make it fit the shape. (The new ones use square shoots for obvious reasons). I'll see if I can fab up a square replacement with a much smoother 90*bend and add a bottom hatch so the owner can remove clogs without climbing into the enclosed dump trailer... That thing gets beat up bad with that tight bend plus they use thin metal. (Its the outfeed of a commercial leaf vacuum).

So what did we learn... factory uses a poor design with thin metal (made to last 2 years tops) and charge $500 for each replacement. I can hopefully make a much better one with a door for less than that and it will last a decade or more and will be easily serviced.

Another fun one. Cleaned the broken metal, welded the top, ground out the cracks from the bottom, welded and smoothed before primer. Welding is a lot of fun. If anyone in the area wants to learn (or if you are younger, see if it's something you might want to do as a career) hit me up.

When the trailer maker does not put in drain holes you get excessive rust. Pulled 2-3lbs of rust out of that tube. Rebuilt it with thicker material and added a drain. Still fought rust when I welded it but it will last a few more years.

Got to use my brand-new welder today to help a local business fix shipping damage. (The expanding nut worked great to not only hold the stud but it kept the threads clean from spatter)
