American Painting Co.

American Painting Co. American Painting Co. specializes in exterior residential repaints. We also do interior painting, ca Family owned/operated since 1971. Ca. Lic. in 1987.

I Originally began in Boston in 1971, Painting exteriors in Weston and Lincoln. By the late 70′s I had painted 600 year-old homes in Hampshire County England, and had painted in Aix-en-Provence, France. In the 80′s I set roots in Malibu, I did some jobs in the Malibu Colony, one of my fondest memories is working for Irving Gordon who wrote the song “Unforgettable.” In 1991 I traveled to San Diego

to film Jerry Brown in his Exploratory Senatorial campaign and permanently moved here in 1994. Also in 1994 the Tex-Cote company asked me to apply their coatings (which require exhaustive prep) due to my untarnished license record and gave me a tour of their facility hoping to get my enrollment and subsequently made me an applicator . I worked for a company applying the product and they made me their Service Manager, soon thereafter I went into business for myself. I now work with products that last decades rather than years, yet cost only a little more than regular paint to apply. Over forty years of experience translate into a knowledge base able to prevent and minimize longevity problems in exterior painting, plus accentuate beauty, flow and feeling in interior painting. People skills put me ahead of the curve when it comes to up-holding my agreements, and I offer free color consultations and Feng-Shui readings for signed contracts, we also loan paint detox machines. Contractor’s Lic. #505-334. Liability and Worker’s Comp. Insured to $2M. Superior Customer Service, Outstanding References upon request

Here's the final pic of the almost finished product, there was a white post on the front porch that we donated our own paint to save on getting unecessary expenses on. also i had noticed some green on the fascia that was unfinished, but that was pretty much it, except for a small square i caught on the porch floor when i was able to walk on it again after it dried. i will include the client's review here as well..tarstarstarstarstar 14 hours ago New

"Hi Wes, thanks so much for the kind review! I really enjoyed working on your project. Your trust in signing on the spot, along with your great preparation before we started, made a huge difference. Having a client who is so appreciative and collaborative brings out the absolute best in my work. I'm glad you're happy with the paint and patch work, and I hope you enjoy the results for many years to come!"

After spraying everything we were able to hone in and fix even the smallest imperfections using flexpatch from the tecote co. to chase smaller imperfections in the wood from prior damage to correct them so that the building no longer looks worn and dated...

So here we are after spraying the front siding and the long troubled south side where the stucco was failing and had to be firmed-up prior to spraying. what we did there was remove all flaking succo, prime the substrate (which was the original stucco, because this was a second stucco layer, done prior to selling the home, which demonstrates that these are worthless in the long run...) then fill enough to remove the edges amd let the original stucco provide most of the matching texture, (we used an elastomeric pre-textured product for better adhesion and longevity.) I need to emphasize that point. People are sold on re-stuckoing a failing stucco by stucco companies. Facts is, and cracks in the original as the re-crack will cause the whole thing to be weather sensitive and they will fail in time. You are better off adressing those problems on a repaint with elastomeric that will provide the right protection against outside moisture, providing a one valve that will release inside moisture and protect your rafters from mold over the years...just saying!

So here is our latest project a sweet home in San Diego that's been neglected over time , termite damage, peeling paint on the wood, failing re-stucco job, the usual suspects...in this video you get to see our approach in order to $ave the client money over re-doing what doesn't need doing. By focusing all our time and effort on what's wrong, we bring it into compliance with the rest of the struture...which is fine!

This is a job we did pre-pandemic. The house was in pretty bad shape, so we had to fix the substrate by adding a lot of primer and topping with elastomeric paints.

Here's a jon from the start. Today u get to c the place after the power-washing which reveals the true state of things to be fixed, not just painted!

We're on the last run, maybe a couple of days left of this 3 week project with elastomeric paints to fill and protect an old home that needed a lot of attention. Now you get the final picture after everything's been cut in. The eaves and the fascia were different colors and they had to be cut in by hand, a lot of labor in the heat!

Here you can see how the use of elastomeric paints can actually fill in where the wood is cracking, allowing you to save thousands in wood repair and replacement costs. The idea is to seal the wood openings where the weather can get in and destroy it, whether it be the sun drying it (due to the lack of build) or the rain penetrating it and rotting it. (due to the cracks on the surface.)

I went ahead and completely primed the area most afflicted by the sun with a stain-blocking primer, then proceeded to fill the worst areas with an elastomeric filler to even out the look and lock out the weather. I'm conditioning it so that when top coated it will hold together against the punishing weather and look homogenous as well...

Last week I started a new project in La Mesa. Exterior painting on a house that really needs it. Currently I will post a video to show what I', up against and how I'm handling it. The plan is to thoroughly power-wash to expose all damaged areas, a separate carpenter will address those issues...
