A simple water source transforms an ordinary outdoor area into a vital sanctuary. Providing clean, reliable water is incredibly important for local birds and insects. It gives them a safe place to hydrate, bathe, and cool down, especially during warmer days when natural resources are scarce.

Just yesterday a hummingbird came and took a shower in my bird bath. It felt like the equivalent of us stumbling across the desert and discovering a beautiful waterfall. The hummingbird dipped, dived and twirled. I tried to get a video of it, but of course the second I did, my phone told me I was out of storage. Took that as a sign to put down my phone and simply enjoy the moment. It makes me so happy I can provide a brief oasis for the local wildlife.
Special thanks to for creating this custom bird bath for our client.

Client Garden Feature ~

This was their very first garden, and these two crafty women went all in. They built their own garden beds, installed gopher wire under the entire planting area (which is truly a pain to install, bonus points), they even ran their own irrigation. True DIYers in every sense, and they did an incredible job.

They created this beautiful, fully functional setup and then hit the very normal moment of, “Okay… what do we plant?” After trying a few things during their first season (Summer 2025), they ran into the usual garden hurdles: pests, low production, and the learning curve that comes with growing food. That’s when they called in Wren Garden. We created a custom plan that focused on soil improvements, dialed in plant nutrition, started seeds specific to our climate and season, and built a strategy around biodiversity and welcoming beneficial insects into their space.

Here’s a few standouts from their garden:
🌱Favorite thing they grew: Swiss chard and kale
🌱Most surprised by: How much they genuinely enjoy eating swiss chard and kale
🌱Biggest challenge: Knowing when it’s time to remove a plant (common question I get all the time)
🌱What they love most: The flowers and how much daily joy they bring
🌱Fun fact: This is their first year as successful gardeners and they harvested tons of food

Gardens can be more than one thing! Beautiful, productive, helpful, and a true joy if you have the right blueprint. Reach out to learn more about setting up your garden.

This Mother’s Day, I chose to be outside (big surprise, huh?)

We worked together as a family unit to begin revamping one side of our yard to create more edible garden and pollinator space. The kids tended to the flower garden, Nick helped wheelbarrow all the DG I wish we never installed, and I plotted the garden beds. We relocated some lizard eggs, played with worms, had a great lunch out. We finished our day contributing to Mother Earth by planting our own acorns that will soon grow into Coast Live Oaks. For me, it was the perfect day. No fancy brunch plans, just grounded quality time together.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers … past, present, and future!

Mediterranean soul meets California modern.

This backyard has officially become our favorite destination. Between the towering King Palms adding a touch of drama and the custom built-in bench crafted by the owner, every detail feels unique, just like our clients.

An overgrown herb garden and edible plants are tucked throughout the landscaping, perfect for a fresh garnish before heading to the cocktail pool. It is the ultimate setup for hosting friends and enjoying long afternoons in their own private oasis.

It’s such a treat when it rains in San Diego. We’re often so dry that when rain comes, it feels like a cool blanket over everything, washing the dust away and giving the garden a fresh reset. Gardening in this weather is honestly my favorite.

Rainy days are a great time to pull weeds, add compost, and re evaluate drainage and problem areas in your yard. You can see exactly where water moves, where it pools, and where your soil might need support.

And of course, the most obvious benefit is that rain brings added nutrients and softens the soil, making planting that much easier.

So grab a pair of boots and get out there! 🌧️

New edible garden feature series coming your way, and I’m so excited to share more of your spaces and stories.

I’ll be highlighting real client gardens and the real experience of growing food at home. Things like what surprised them most about growing, their biggest challenge so far, what they love most about having a garden, and fun facts about them as gardeners.

Because every garden is different, and every grower has a story. And honestly, those stories are my favorite part.

If you’re a current client, you might see your garden here soon. If you’re thinking about starting, this is your sign. The right setup makes a world of difference.
