While some believe it is overrated, we think the opposite. This month our featured plant is the Hybrid Tea Rose: often imitated but never replicated.

What makes this plant beautiful is not only its magnificent availability of colors and shades, but the iconic fragrance of the blooms. The modern cultivars bred from traditional tea roses bring these benefits but with added disease and pest resistants making them ideal for our gardens.

What better way to start this new plant series than with the one that started is all: The Aster. The name originates from the Greek word for "Star", taken from the shape and layout of the pedals.

This resilient native perennial, has proven to work in not only in its usual Mountain climate but also in the Piedmont and Coastal regions, making it perfect for anywhere you live. The Aster is a slow-growing, mounding plant that typically blooms late summer into fall.

The Aster comes in a few different colors such as white, pink, and our favorite, Purple. Its natural ability to be drought resistant, makes it a champion in low maintenance gardens. Some of its best uses can be containers, small space gardens, hillside gardens or butterfly/pollinator gardens.

Fall is in the air, which means it is time to OFFICIALLY launch our monthly plant education series titled: "A Little Plant Know-How"

While the name sounds new, we are anything but new to this industry. Purple Aster Landscape Contractors or "Purple Aster", as we are commonly referred to as, was founded by father/son duo J. Sr. and Junior Garcia in 2020.

J. Garcia Sr. brings over 20+ years of field-experience in specialized aspects of the green industry such as: Water Features (Fountains, Ponds, Streams), Hardscapes (Patios, Walkways, Retaining Walls), and Complete Grounds Management, aside from his extensive horticultural knowledge and great intrapersonal skills.

Junior Garcia, on the other hand, brings his Degree in Landscape from the well-known Sandhills CC Program, on top of his various state licenses and certifications such as Licensed NC Landscape Contractor and Certified Plant Professional, both of which he acquired by the age of 19, making him one of the youngest industry professionals in the state of North Carolina.

Together they combine time-tested install, construction, and grounds management methods and techniques with the latest industry knowledge, to give you the service and quality you and your property deserve.
