Humble Beginnings Homestead Three veterans decided they wanted a different way of life. So we created our homestead from the ground up.

We will be growing our own produce, raising livestock, and making our own products.

Without spending loads of money to clean the water up coming out of this well… thanks to a friend it occurred to me that I can water grass with it at least right!? Not eating the grass and it’s not watering my gardens so why not put it to use?

Haven’t done a whole lot this winter but the sun is out, the sun is getting warm and gardening season is right around the corner! (Or if you’re starting seeds indoors it has already begun!) this bed is gonna get sunflowers and cover crops again this year in hopes that by next summer the soil will be ripe for growth!

PSA…. If you have an outdoor shower and it’s winter…. Make sure you or anyone who might be using it knows to drain the hot water heater if it’s gonna freeze:… 2 winters, two hot water heaters down ☺️😅 guess it’s time to find another solution for showers! Also outdoor tankless hot water heaters still need protection 🤷🏼‍♂️who’d have thought

Rain collection and water usage being the focus of the last few weeks. Needing some final filtration and a water test so that … fingers crossed…. We have usable water. Much more capacity to come but the main water has 825 gallons. Using the shed hopefully we can add 550-1000 more

Been pretty busy on the homestead between jobs. Daikon radishes are doing awesome-ish! (Watering issues in this dry spell) finalizing water capture system and a mix of regular property chores! Very fortunate to have the time and resources to work on all this 🙏🏼 slowly marching forward towards bigger and more impactful projects. Hope everyone’s had an amazing summer! Stay humble

Check out this Ground Breaking crop! (Quite literally) Daikon Radishes! We’ve got solid clay soil that you can barely punch a spike into here on the homestead. Getting creative to break that clay up and create pockets for organic matter to make its way in and improve the soil. They grow (potentially) 18+ inches deep into the soil breaking through the tough clay, left to rot in the ground once mature they will then add organic matter and more cover crops can come in over top to hopefully create a better growing environment for future plants in this bed! It’s a Fun and satisfying little garden experiment, have fun and stay humble friends!

One year ago today I arrived from my long journey from Alaska to start fresh and try to bring more peace in my life. Only one year and quite a bit has been accomplished. Day one I pulled in and within minutes I got to work cutting a pad and an entrance to this beautiful piece of land! I’m so happy to be here and grateful for all the love and support I received to get to this place. There is a long ways to go to have some semblance of normalcy in my life but I’ve enjoyed every bit of the adventure so far. Here’s to year one at Humble Beginnings! Cheers friends 🍻
