Heavy snowfall can cause real problems for your heating system — especially heat pumps.

Before it becomes an emergency:
• Clear snow away from outdoor units (leave 18–24” of space)
• Keep intake and exhaust vents free of snow and ice
• Don’t crank the thermostat — steady temps work best
• Listen for unusual noises or frequent shut-offs

If you see the outdoor unit frozen to switch the thermostat to emergency heat. If your system loses heat or you notice ice buildup, turn it off.

If you have a 90% gas furnace, check where the drain is. If the drain is outside, make sure it is clear of snow and not freezing & blocking the drain.
