2026 has been a historically tough year for seasoning firewood in northwestern Connecticut.
The primary culprit was a drastic weather pivot. While the year started with an unseasonably dry spring, summer 2026 shattered rainfall records across Connecticut. Repeated heavy rain events, stalled frontal boundaries, and slow-moving low-pressure systems repeatedly drenched the region through July and August. Coastal areas like Bridgeport hit all-time records with over 21 inches of summer rain, but inland areas across Litchfield and Hartford counties also experienced relentless, heavy downpours that completely wiped away the earlier drought Because wood requires continuous heat, wind, and low humidity to cure, the persistent moisture and high humidity of this past summer severely stalled the drying process.
Again buy in the Spring , have delivered in the Spring, Stack in the Spring, BURN in the Fall!

The wood sits all year in piles like this, so don’t complain when it gets pulled from the pile and delivered to you in October (especially when you call to order in October) if your seasoned wood wont burn! As we keep promoting…Buy and deliver in the Spring, its the only way the wood is truly going to dry in small piles at your place, we do not have the space to make 400 smalls piles and store all year! This is not kiln dried or green house dried! Its seasoned dried which means cut in the previous winter, usually Jan-March, stored outside kissed by some snow , the sun and rain in large piles. Does the inside of the pile test the same as the outside, absolutely not. I don’t think there needs to be any further explanation! Buy in the Spring!
