Do you still own a system with the older “OG” freon? (R-22)
Have you been told you have to replace your system?
I find it a little difficult to believe that all of a sudden everybody’s air conditioning system has a leak and it’s going to cost “$3,000” or more to repair it. . . . These bigger companies train their employees more in sales than actual repairs!
“Mr and Mrs customer, you would be better off buying our new $15,000 system and not only will that fix your leak, but you get a 10 year warranty” Now, if you have that extra 15k laying around, this is a true statement.
What about those of us on a tight budget? What do we do?
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve come across systems where the leak can’t be found or fixed, but I’ve also found and fixed leaks that have stayed fixed for years afterwards.
As far as how much does a repair cost?
It depends on how much Freon has leaked out. For example, if the leak can be fixed and it only takes 3 pounds of Freon, you would be looking to pay about a tenth of what a new system would typically cost.
