✔ Preventing Sky Rats from turning this home into Gotham City's finest.

That's right, I said Sky Rats.
Angry Little P**p Goblins.
Shall I continue?

Today was one of those days!😁

A scissor lift, a lot of bird spikes, and a few hours later, the flying freeloaders received their official notice to vacate the premises.

A few feelings have been hurt. Oh well. Too bad for you.

Mission accomplished.😛

Ever try to polish up 20 years of ‘that oughta hold’? 😂

Is it a brand-new luxury privacy fence?
Nope! Not this monster!

This thing looked like it had survived:
3 windstorms
2 bad contractors
1 family argument
and possibly a small tornado.

At this point, we weren’t installing a fence.
We were performing emergency surgery on a possible wooden crime scene. 😂

The old posts were rotted completely off underground, the fence was leaning harder than a cowboy after a long rodeo, and every section had been “fixed” differently by somebody else over the years.

But it's standing upright now! Stronger, safer, and not leaning over.

That’s real-life handyman work sometimes!
Not every project is shiny and perfect.

Sometimes it’s about making the best out of what’s already there...which is like trying to pretty up a turd. You just do the best you can with what you got to work with!

This is my mothers-in-law's porch, and honestly… it needed help BAD.

The old stain job was peeling, cracking, splintering, and fighting back like it had a personal grudge against bare feet and hands!

So, we tore into it together--like we do!

We’re not some giant company sending random people to your house.

It’s us.
A husband-and-wife team that actually cares about the final result and takes pride in doing things the RIGHT way.

We work hard.
We joke constantly.
And sometimes we give each other the side-eye like, you better fix that or I will.

But at the end of it all, we stand back together and look at a finished project we’re proud of.

And honestly…
that’s a really fun life.

No random people helping you out...
It's just us!
And we speak English!

So apparently part of being a good husband means volunteering for dangerous missions!!

The mother in law’s deck. 🤣

Mission objective:
Save mother in law’s feet.
Eliminate splinters.
Restore porch peace.

That’s the thing about doing projects correctly the first time…
The previous builder of this deck should know that....

It saves a Marine from having to come fix it later.

We showed up to what looked like a simple little sidewalk replacement job…

Then we met the concrete.

Apparently this sidewalk was poured sometime during the Viking era using crushed granite, broken dreams, and pure hatred. Pretty sure we found traces of Viking tears mixed into the cement too. 🤣

At times, Andy was wrestling a 75 pound jackhammer like it owed him money!!

But hey… Marines don’t quit.

After we finally defeated the ancient cursed sidewalk, we hauled everything out, brought in fresh topsoil, rolled out fresh cut sod, and completely transformed the area.

Honestly, this is the fun part of what we do!!

Today’s job was simple… or so we thought. 😂

Customer needed a small chunk of concrete cut out so the sprinkler guy could access some fittings underneath. In his beautiful home addition.

Easy enough.

What nobody talks about is the “helper position” in these situations. Nikki got assigned flashlight duty AND “professional dust control specialist” with a brand new "Bucket Head Vacuum" setup she was WAYYY too excited about. 🤦‍♂️

Turns out:
That hose is approximately 4 inches too short...heck, it's 4 feet too short! Who thought, "this hose is plenty long enough" needs to be in Nikki's position!
The vacuum had the emotional stability of a raccoon on espresso!!
And concrete chips absolutely WILL hit you directly in the face. Repeatedly.

So, there she was…
Crouched on the floor…
Holding a flashlight…
Trying to wrestle a SHORT vacuum hose that barely worked to vacuum up the cement dust...
While Andy played demolition derby with the concrete. 😂

But hey… we got the concrete opened up exactly how the sprinkler guy needed it, the customer’s happy, and now we know that “bucket head vacuum” sounds a lot cooler than it actually is.

Turns out this sidewalk wasn’t made with concrete… it was apparently forged by Vikings using enough steel to survive the apocalypse!

Customer tried busting it up himself and barely scratched it.

So, we brought in the skid steer and started introducing this prehistoric sidewalk to modern technology.

Whoever poured this thing 100 years ago deserves respect… and possibly a psychological evaluation.

But in the end, Bear Claw Services won. 💪
