“Before the flowers come the post holes.”
Mountain Meadow Floral Farm is being built one fence post at a time.

Some flowers stay with you long after a trip ends.

Back in 2017, I visited a friend in Colorado, went Jeeping through the San Juan mountains with her and her brother, and completely fell in love with the native Columbine blooming along the way. Naturally I then bought Columbine seed and made them their own little flower bed, bordered with river rock.

Now every bloom feels like a tiny piece of that Colorado summer tucked into my own mountain garden.

The dahlia nursery is officially protected.

Raised trays, cleaned pots, labels made, tubers tucked in, and deer netting up because nothing says “flower farming in the mountains” like protecting your future blooms before they even sprout.

Most people see a pile of rock.
I see fence posts, deer protection, future flowers, and my entire personality for the next several years. 🌸

He thought I said “a few flower beds.”

I meant a flower farm.

Send Red Bull. And maybe more chainsaw chains.

Tiny hunter. Big job.

Found this little jumping spider tucked into the flowers, already hard at work patrolling the leaves. I left her right where she was because every flower farm needs a few tiny predators on staff. No pesticides required—just nature doing what nature does.

Yesterday’s rain soaked everything, and this morning the sun came through just enough to warm the trees and send steam drifting through the forest. It felt like the whole mountain was quietly waking up.

Little moments like this are why I love living here.

New chainsaw day on the flower farm clearing project. Hubz upgraded me from the battery-powered saw I’ve been using to a 16” Stihl Light, and let me tell you… this little thing may be compact, but it gets after it. Faster cuts, easier handling, and perfect for clearing limbs, cutting firewood, and all the messy prep work before fencing goes in. One step closer to turning this forest edge into flower rows.
