Rail Dynamics Group is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Locust Heights & Western Railroad (LH&W RR).

Under this collaboration, RDG contractors will be assisting the dedicated volunteers of the LH&W RR in the maintenance and operation of their historic Class A Climax locomotive, as well as supporting ongoing work on their rolling stock and trackage. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to preserving and actively operating historic railroad equipment in a safe, reliable, and authentic manner.

We are especially excited to support LH&W RR’s operating season and encourage visitors to experience the railroad in action on Wednesday evenings throughout the season. The combination of hands-on preservation work and public operation makes this a unique and valuable living history experience.

RDG Steam Services is pleased to report continued progress on the restoration of Reading 2100. During the locomotive’s most recent test fire, another important milestone was achieved as the safety valves were calibrated to their respective operating pressures.

Each advancement reflects the continued dedication and craftsmanship of all those involved in bringing this historic locomotive back to operation. We appreciate the ongoing support of our partners, volunteers, and followers as work progresses.

We look forward to welcoming everyone trackside this year as we join in celebrating America’s 250th anniversary—a significant milestone for the nation and for the preservation of its railroading heritage.

RDG Steam Services at American Steam Railroad Preservation Association, Inc for the AFT #250’s first fireup of 2026!

Our contractors were proud to be on site for the successful fire-up of AFT 250/2100. After months of hard work and careful preparation, the boiler performed exactly as intended, and the FRA has taken no exceptions.

It’s always rewarding to see a project reach this stage—steam in the pipes and another locomotive one step closer to the rails. Cheers to everyone who made it happen!

We’re excited to hear that our partners at the Sioux City Railroad Museum and the American Heartland Railroad Society have received a well deserved grant. The funding will progress the restoration of GN 1355 greatly as well as other necessary projects around the museum. We look forward to being involved going forward!
