https://www.facebook.com/HumboldtToiyabeNF/posts/pfbid02aswZT34HVXDyT2Acgv91Mv4MTdCbP4L8qVF8J7qCtofzjn52PngcReno, NV - The HTNF Fuels Fire Management Team is preparing for a tentative Prescribed Fire this first week of May (National Fire Preparedness Week). Multiple Fire resources will be out in the White's Creek Trail area, just south of Reno, NV. This location was treated with a similar and very successful understory burn last spring (2022). Burn Crews will start test burning Tuesday but could be pushed back to later in the week depending on the weather.
Forty-one acres are ultimately planned on this unit for this year, but the Fuels Team only plans to target roughly 20 of that this week due to some snow coverage on the second plot. Wildland Firefighters will be burning the north-slope understory of a Jeffrey Pine stand in brush and light fuels, including needle cast and grass.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif., Jan. 30, 2020 – The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit invites you to Ski with a Ranger at Heavenly Mountain Resort beginning Friday, Jan. 31, 2020. Tours begin at Tamarack Lodge, at the top of the Heavenly Gondola every Friday at 1 p.m. The tours last approximately one-hour and continue through March 27, 2020, weather permitting.

“We are grateful for our collaboration with Heavenly Mountain Resort,” said LTBMU Forest Supervisor, Jeff Marsolais. “By partnering together, we are able to offer free interpretive programs that promote environmental literacy and public land stewardship.”

Participants must be intermediate level skiers/boarders or above and provide their own lift ticket. No reservations are required. Attendance is on a first-come first-served basis and group size is limited to 12. Participants should meet at the top of the Heavenly Gondola outside of Tamarack Lodge.

These FREE conservation education programs are offered to educate the public about the mission and role of the Forest Service in ski area management, to improve public understanding of natural resource processes and issues and to promote environmental literacy and stewardship. Programs are led by Forest Service conservation education staff and volunteers, and operate through a cooperative effort between Heavenly Mountain Resort and the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority.

Marsolais remarked, “We also wish to thank our dedicated community volunteers, who generously donate their time to help educate the skiing and riding visitors to the National Forest.”

Did you know that over 120 ski areas operate on National Forests? For many skiers and boarders, the view from the top of a ski resort is their first, and often most powerful, connection to the incredible beauty and vastness of our National Forest System. Snow covered trees, magnificent ridgelines, sweeping valleys below. Pictured here: a few fine views from some of the seven ski areas operating within the Tahoe National Forest. These resorts partner with the Tahoe National Forest to offer world-class recreation for thousands of forest visitors each year.
