🌙✨ We're Still Here ✨🌙

We wanted to check in and let everyone know that Garden Grimoire is still very much alive and moving forward.

The last month has been a whirlwind between moving into our new home and tackling a few unexpected challenges with the wand housing design. After a lot of thought, I've made the difficult decision to move our Alpha Program launch to the Spring growing season.

Could we ship the wands in temporary housings and continue developing the app? Absolutely. But that would only postpone the biggest question we still need to answer: Can the housing design we've envisioned actually be built the way we want?

Rather than kicking that problem down the road, I've decided it's better to solve it now. I want our alpha testers to experience Garden Grimoire the way it was meant to be experienced from the very beginning.

This does mean things will be a little quieter here for a while. I'll still be around, and I'll continue posting updates when there's meaningful news to share, but regular posts will be more limited until we have progress on the wand housings.

Thank you all for your incredible support, encouragement, and patience. It truly means the world to us. Every comment, follow, and message reminds me why this project is worth building.

Spring will be here before we know it, and when it arrives, we'll be ready to grow together.

🌙 We've been a little quiet these past couple of weeks, and for good reason.
Between buying our new home in Newport, packing boxes, working our day jobs, and continuing development behind the scenes, life has been wonderfully chaotic.
The forge hasn't gone cold.
We're still working toward getting our alpha wands into testers' hands and bringing Garden Grimoire one step closer to helping gardeners understand their soil, sunlight, and plants with confidence.
Thank you to everyone who's stuck with us while we've been a little quieter than usual. Your encouragement means more than you know.
We're settling into our new home, and once the dust settles, we're excited to share more behind-the-scenes progress from the workshop.

We hope everyone has a safe, relaxing holiday filled with family, friends, and a little time in the garden. 🌿

You may have noticed we've been a little quieter than usual this week, so we wanted to share what's been happening behind the scenes.

The biggest news is... Garden Grimoire is moving! 🏡

We're in the middle of relocating to Newport, Washington, and the adventure of buying our first home has taken far more of our time than we expected. Between inspections, paperwork, packing, and preparing for the move, it's been a whirlwind—but we're incredibly excited for this next chapter. Our new home will give Garden Grimoire room to grow alongside us.

Development hasn't stopped, though!

We've also been hard at work finding a solution for our Alpha Wands. Unfortunately, we've run into additional setbacks with our original housing design. Rather than keep everyone waiting, we're moving forward with temporary housings so we can get the technology into your hands while we continue refining the final production design.

Our goal is still to get the Alpha Wands out in time for the fall growing season. We know many of you have been patiently waiting, and we're incredibly grateful for your support and encouragement throughout this journey.

Thank you for sticking with us as we build something we truly believe in. Every challenge we overcome brings Garden Grimoire one step closer to becoming the gardening companion we've dreamed of creating.

🌙🔥 Forge Update – A Very Long Night in the Foundry 🔥🌙

Today's work was almost entirely focused on one of Garden Grimoire's biggest systems: helping the calendar understand that plants live beyond a single growing season.

Today's accomplishments:

❄️ Built the foundation of the Pre-Frost Ritual.
🌱 Added winter planning options:
• Overwinter Indoors
• Protect Outside
• Store Dormant
• Save Seeds
• Let Frost Take It

🌷 Added spring reminders to replant dormant bulbs, tubers, and corms.

🌸 Fixed recurring bloom windows so perennials can bloom year after year instead of only once.

🍂 Added annual cleanup logic so plants marked "Let Frost Take It" can naturally leave the garden after frost.

🌿 Added seed-saving logic so plants marked "Save Seeds" can begin a new growing cycle next season.

🏡 Fixed the Add Garden crash.

🗺️ Added the groundwork for storing USDA growing zones so the calendar can eventually understand when a plant behaves as an annual in one climate and a perennial in another.

We are officially moving from building individual features into teaching Garden Grimoire how plants truly live through the seasons.

Tomorrow's forge:
• Save GPS and USDA growing zone information.
• Finish zone-dependent perennial and flexible plant logic.
• Begin testing all of the new seasonal lifecycle systems.

A butterfly garden is more than beautiful—it's a sanctuary.

Every flower you plant can become a resting place, a source of nectar, or even a nursery for the next generation of butterflies. By adding host plants and pollinator-friendly blooms, your garden becomes part of something much bigger than itself.

Did you know? Monarch butterflies can travel up to 3,000 miles during their incredible migration. Along the way, they rely on gardens like ours to provide food, shelter, and places to lay their eggs.

✨ Host plants are essential because caterpillars need specific plants to survive:

🌿 Dill and Fennel for Black Swallowtails
🌿 Passionflower for Gulf Fritillaries

Did you know? Cucumbers are made up of about 95% water, making them one of the most hydrating vegetables you can grow in your garden.

• Vines discovered climbing patio furniture.
• Unknown cucurbit identified growing inside tomato cages.

Pumpkin seeds are remarkably resilient and thrive in rich compost. Unless you're intentionally growing pumpkins, remove or roast the seeds before composting. Otherwise, prepare for surprise gourds next spring.

BEST COMPOST PRACTICES

• Remove seeds before composting pumpkin guts.
• Hot compost if you want to destroy viable seeds.
• Save the seeds for roasting instead.
• Turn your compost regularly and know what you're planting.

🌙✨ Our Alpha Testers Have Been Chosen! ✨🌙

First and foremost, thank you to everyone who applied to be part of the Garden Grimoire Alpha Program.

To say we were overwhelmed by the response would be an understatement. Over the last few weeks—and especially during the North Idaho Herbal Festival—we met so many incredible gardeners, plant enthusiasts, scientists, and curious minds who believe in what we're building.

Unfortunately, we had a limited number of spots available.

When selecting our testers, we looked for a balanced mix of:
🌱 Gardening experience levels
🔬 Technical literacy
🪴 Different garden types and growing environments
🗺️ Geographic distribution across the United States

Our goal is to test Garden Grimoire not only here in the Pacific Northwest, but in gardens across America so we can better understand how the app and wand perform in many different climates and conditions.

For our final remaining spots from the festival today, we held a random drawing because we had far more interest than available openings.

To everyone who applied and was not selected this round: thank you. Your enthusiasm means the world to us, and this absolutely will not be our last testing phase. As Garden Grimoire grows, we hope to bring many more gardeners into our community.

🌿✨ Day 2 at the North Idaho Herbal Festival ✨🌿

Today felt different.

We had fewer people simply scanning a QR code and moving on, but so many more stopped to have real conversations.

We talked about: 🌞 Why sunlight matters more than most gardeners realize. 🪴 How soil chemistry changes from garden to garden. 📊 What a full 24-hour light analysis can reveal about the spaces where we grow.

One of our favorite moments was being invited to visit a local garden club to test their soil and talk about Garden Grimoire. That's exactly why we started this project—to learn alongside other gardeners and help people better understand the places they grow.

To everyone who stopped by our booth, asked questions, shared stories, and got excited about what we're building: thank you.

Every conversation reminds us that Garden Grimoire isn't just about technology.

It's about helping people understand their gardens and grow with intention. 🌙🌱
