Just about there on the details on the interior doors for our Nordic home. These are going to be veneered and stained like the white oak cabinets so we wanted to ensure all details matched the cabinets.

First we ordered all our veneer from the same supplier of the cabinet veneer to ensure that things matched like it should (with white oak there shouldn't be much of an issue but one less thing to chance).

Second, and mainly, had to finish out the edge detail of the doors. In the past we had one where the sheet veneer was noticeable on the edge and neither the designer or us liked that so we had them edge band the doors with a thin piece of real white oak to hide this. But before we just roll with that we are working with a sample and staining it with the finish stain to ensure all are happy with how things look.

One thing we have started doing is painting the inside of the HVAC boots black, especially those with wood or decorative grills. While they are clean seeing the galvanized metal isn't as nice as not really seeing anything except black.

Happy Friday! Things are getting really close at the house in the woods, we have had our initial clean to be able to turn on the HVAC systems and start the punch process while wrapping up trim outs. The whole house is turning out amazing....great work by the homeowner, designer, our project manager and trade partners....but this entry with all the woodwork and hidden door is one of my favorite parts.

Over the last few years we have started adding more and more appliance drains for those applainces such as the dishwasher and ice maker. Some are fully drained like this first one for the dishwasher and others like the ice maker are not. And this is done for a reason, while we don't want these appliances to ever damage the finishes of the home we also want to ensure the homeowner knows when there is an issue and it not be a catastrophic event when they find a lot of damage.

The drain for the dishwasher pan for this one doesn't tie directly into the pluming system it pours onto the floor directed to a floor drain in the basement mechanical so if this leaks when you are down there you will see this water and know something is wrong, if it tied directly into the system it might go a long time not being noticed while a small leak until its a large water event that could cause a lot of damage.

Similarly on the ice maker, one in this application with floor framing and all the other items in the floor system in this area getting a drained pan was not an option so here the goal is for any water to dump out onto the floor in front of the cabinets. While it is still on the finished floor it is in an area the homeowner will see and can address any issues or turn the unit off. Without this a leak could be happening in the back of the unit and not be seen until major damage has been done.

In the end these are some minor cost insurance policies to prevent the headaches of water damage.

We had posted last week about all the windows being completed at the Nordic home and now have all the sealing tape installed and air/water proof. For this installation we decided to use SIGA tape both on the interior and exterior. We discussed different options on this but aftersome discussion landed on this. We have done an intial blower door and the team is working on some additional sealing then will run another test to ensure this is tight as planned.

The final pieces of the Nordic windows and doors were installed this week. The front door is from Pivot Door and a 3+ inch thick white oak pivot door. On both sides of it are the triple glazed windows brining tons of light in this entry that will be clad in white oak panels and the large pocket door we posted on a while back will serve as a privacy barrier to this front entry when you aren't wanting anyone to be able to see into the home.

You can see in the third picture we are working hard to ensure this is covered well until we get the finish on it that is in the works.

Last week when on site the drywallers were wrapping up the install of the added cove in the master bedroom at the Shoreline Modern home. And it is turning out really cool, there will be a crown placed below this with some uplighting when all completed as well as paneling on the walls below.

The manner in which they installed this was really cool, they used a aluminum T material like what you see for a drop ceiling to create the structure for this shape. Once mudded in next week it will be a nice added detail.

You can barely see this detail but one we spent some time on while we were working through siding. This porch is a vented attic and we didn't want to install large vents in our beautiful soffits so we instead added them next to the LVLs wrapping around the porch. This did a couple things, first allowed air to get drawn up to the roof vents and kept things visually nice and clean on the lower side. Two being next to the LVL it allows that air to enter the attic area about 12" above the ceiling, in this case the owner wanted to install some blown in insulation so that it would help lessen the heat radiating down during this summer months, so the air entering at ceiling level would just push it around and not make it or the vents as effective. This allows both to operate independently.

At the house in the woods we and some other trade partners have posted lately on the really cool entry way hidden door and accent wall. When on site today I wanted to also check out some of the portions that are pretty well done at the home. The back patio wrapped a little while ago, there is some touch up needed in the masonry (not on this side), speakers and cleaning but this will be a cool spot to hang out.

The final photo is something we have done several times, when the client has plans for a TV on a wall we have sometimes installed a block that either fits in the stone or in this case the ChamClad siding so when the tv is installed they only have to attach to this and don't have to worry about cutting slotted holes in the siding for it to still expand and contract.

When you are building what looks like a large barn with no windows in it, you get a huge transformation as those go in. They have moved through them all pretty effeciently and down to just the window wall now. Then the painstaking process of getting backer rod installed and SIGA tape to ensure they are air and water sealed. But just getting them in the holes makes a huge difference in the look of each room and getting to see more what the final views will be.

Be sure to follow along on this one, about done with the rough in and then onto the fun part and there are some really cool details coming.
