🌳 What a Saturday. Thank you to everyone who came out to the inaugural Frontenac Plant Expo, rain and all.

To the folks who showed up with umbrellas, the gardeners who brought their curiosity and questions, and the kids who picked out free swag and chased Scoops of Joy! between raindrops, you made this event what it was. We loved meeting you.

A few highlights from our side of the table:
🌿 Timberline Landscapes Timberline Landscapes had the most charming hand-painted terracotta pots, lettered by St. Louis calligraphy artist Leah Spiros LEAH SPIROS | St. Louis Calligrapher • Engraver • Painter. Look her up. The detail was beautiful!
🌳 Forest ReLeaf and Metropolitan Forestry Services brought their tree expertise and answered every question that came their way. Forest ReLeaf of Missouri Metropolitan Forestry Services
🌱 Garden Heights Nursery and Greenscape Gardens Nursery showed up with knowledge, plants, and the kind of generosity that makes the St. Louis plant community feel like a community. Greenscape Gardens Garden Heights Nursery
🌎 The Missouri Department of Natural Resources rounded things out with a display of native animal pelts, raw honey samples, and lots of other goodies!

Huge thank you to Rita Garbs Diekemper and her company Gardens of Grace LLC and the Frontenac Garden Club for putting this together, and to the Mercy Conference & Retreat Center for hosting. For an inaugural event in St. Louis weather, this one set the bar!

We came home wet, happy, and grateful. Already looking forward to the next one in 2028. 🌧️🌳

Two years ago, friends came together to give Maureen a Treebute in memory of her father, Kevin. At that time she was building a new home, so we waited. That is part of the gift. Grief does not follow a schedule, and neither do we.

Today, her Bracken’s Brown Beauty Magnolia went in the ground. Chosen by her. Gifted by the people who love her. Planted in exactly the right place. Seen everyday.

This is what Treebute makes possible.🌳

One question we hear, “What if I am not ready to plant right away?”

Good news. The kit waits with you.

Grief does not run on a schedule, so we built our memorial tree kits to be patient. The tree is nursery grown and healthy. Families have held kits for weeks, sometimes into the next planting season, with the tree ready when they are.

Plant the day it arrives. Plant on the anniversary. Plant when the family can gather. All of those are right.

A group of families from their school community came together last week to do something lasting for a family navigating the loss of their grandmother.

The family chose a Bracken’s Brown Beauty Magnolia, and had it planted in a special spot in the backyard where they will see it every day.

That tree is going to grow and bloom for decades. It will be there every spring. It will be there on the hard days and the ordinary ones.

That is what a living memorial does that a flower arrangement simply cannot.

🗑️ Join us on Saturday April 11th 9:00am-11:00am at the Spoede Rd. & south outer I-64 for a Trash Bash!

🦺 We will supply the yellow trash bags and orange safety vests (required)

🧤 Wear protective gloves, comfortable clothing, and appropriate footwear. Please, no children under 10 years old allowed.

Ten families came together to give a lasting gift in memory of someone who meant a great deal to their school community.

She was a mother, grandmother, and alum, with roots here that spanned three generations. Her daughter graduated from this school. Her grandchildren still walk these grounds. And anyone who knew her remembers her joyful, bubbly spirit and the light she brought wherever she went.

Today, a Weeping Higan Cherry was planted in her memory beside the stone bridge near the main entrance, a place of beauty, visibility, and meaning. Every student, every visitor, and every family arriving at the front gate will pass by her tree.

🌸 Weeping Higan Cherry was chosen for exactly this kind of remembrance. Graceful, long-lived, and unmistakable in bloom, it will be hard to miss every spring. That is exactly the point. She is still part of this place.

To the families who came together to make this happen, what a gift you gave! This is what a living memorial looks like.

It’s Cherry Blossom season! 🌸

Flowering cherry trees are in bloom. Here are three varieties worth knowing:

The Kwanzan Cherry puts on one of the boldest spring shows of any flowering tree, with large clusters of deep pink double blooms that look almost like small roses. It has a full, vase-shaped form.

The Snow Fountains Weeping Cherry is more compact shape, with graceful arching branches that drape all the way to the ground under the weight of cascading white blooms.

The fast growing Yoshino Cherry brings a broad, open canopy filled with masses pale pink to nearly white blooms in one spectacular early spring flush.

Beyond their beauty, all 3 of these support spring pollinators. During their short 2 to 3 week bloom window, they can attract hummingbirds, songbirds, butterflies, and bees. 🐝 🦋

In Japanese culture, cherry blossoms are known as sakura, a symbol long associated with spring, renewal, and the fleeting beauty of life.

Maybe that is part of why they still stop us in our tracks. They are beautiful in the moment, and they return each year as a living reminder of love, memory, and connection.

Dust and grime build up over time and block the sunlight your tree needs. A quick wipe-down makes a real difference. 🧽

Here’s how to do it right:
Dampen a soft cloth with lukewarm water and wipe each leaf individually, top and bottom. For large-leafed trees like Fiddle Leaf Figs, this is especially important since their broad surface area is their main light-collecting tool.

Follow up with a light mist to add a little humidity.💦

Ten minutes, once a month. Your tree will thank you for it.
