I came out here expecting crisp autumn weather, but apparently, the weather wasn't ready to let summer go!
Today at Greener Acres Garden Oasis, Dotty is troubleshooting why our fall cabbage and cool-season greens are taking so long to wake up. High soil temperatures from a lingering summer can completely stall your seeds. While the heat is our prime suspect, we aren't ruling out dry topsoil or seed age just yet. The golden rule? We are observing, but we are absolutely NOT digging up the dirt to check.
Is summer still holding on tight in your neck of the woods, or has fall finally arrived? Let's chat in the comments! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‚

Weโ€™ve all been tempted to dig up a seed just to see if itโ€™s actually growing, right? Today at Greener Acres Garden Oasis, we are planting tiny beet seeds and talking about the ultimate gardening superpower: patience. You can't rush what's happening beneath the soil. Our only job is to plant them, take care of them, and give them the time they need to thrive.
What is the hardest plant for you to wait on during the growing season? Let's chat in the comments! ๐Ÿ‘‡

The grass really thought it got an invitation to the garlic bed! Today at Greener Acres Garden Oasis, we are clearing out the weeds so our resilient volunteer garlic can thrive.
These incredible plants survived the entire summer heat with absolutely zero care. To test their limits, we are officially ditching last year's winter frost tents and making them face the cold completely on their own! โ„๏ธ๐Ÿ‚

Ever had a plant completely break all the rules?
Right now at Greener Acres Garden Oasis, our beets are soaring, but the rest of our fall cropsโ€”kale, cabbage, carrots, and radishesโ€”are still totally undercover. It makes no sense because they all have the same dirt and the same care!
We've officially named a prime suspect for this slow-sprouting mystery, and we're setting a strict deadline date to step in and fix it.
Has a late-planted crop ever completely outpaced your earlier plantings? Tell me what happened in the comments! ๐Ÿ‘‡

Hello, my garden family, and welcome back to Greener Acres! Every gardener knows how easily life can get in the way, but today we are finally out in the beds and catching up. We are unboxing a fantastic new batch of seeds and bulbs to fill the gaps in our underground vegetable inventory. From beet seeds to garlic, plus a sweet lineup of white, yellow, and Vidalia onions, we are getting everything lined up for a massive homestead harvest.
Are you a fan of sweet yellow onions or sharp white onions in your kitchen? Let me know in the comments below! ๐Ÿง…๐Ÿ‘‡

No winter blankets for the garlic this year! We are running a total garden experiment at Greener Acres Garden Oasis, leaving our garlic beds completely uncovered to see if they can survive the frost on their own.
Friendly reminder for my Zone 7 family: right now through October is peak garlic planting time, so go get your cloves in the ground! ๐Ÿ‚๐ŸŒฑ
Do you protect your garlic in the winter or let it tough it out? Let me know below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

Don't let a bare garden bed make you panic-plant!
Today at Greener Acres Garden Oasis, Dotty is breaking down why patience and observation are a gardener's greatest tools. Instead of tearing up the dirt to check on slow seeds, we are setting a strict check-in date and using a smart succession planting strategy. Staggering your crops means you observe, you adjust, and you resow only when the conditions are perfectly favorable.
Do you use succession planting to extend your harvests, or do you tend to plant everything all at once? Let's chat in the comments! ๐Ÿ‘‡

The ultimate garden experiment is officially underway! ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿฅ•
To finally solve the mystery, I'm planting my saved mystery seeds directly alongside confirmed carrot seeds under the exact same conditions. But don't expect answers anytime soonโ€”baby carrots and baby Queen Anne's lace look nearly identical above ground! The real truth is hidden in the roots, which means we have to wait all the way until harvest time.
Could we end up with a crazy, cross-pollinated hybrid that's a little bit of both? Honestly, that would be the most on-brand ending for this plant!

Planning ahead is the key to a beautiful, bountiful garden harvest! Today at Greener Acres Garden Oasis, we are stepping out into the beds to prep the soil for the upcoming below-ground planting phase. I am so excited to bring back the gourmet Chestnut Red garlicโ€”itโ€™s an organic, non-GMO variety that did amazingly well for me last year. Plus, I'm giving you a sneak peek at the new onion sets arriving for next month's planting window!

Have you ever grown a Chestnut Red garlic variety, or do you have a different favorite? Let's swap recommendations in the comments! ๐Ÿ‘‡

This mystery plant is looking more suspicious by the minute! ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿฅ•
In this episode of the carrot saga, we are comparing our rogue volunteer plant to a confirmed garden carrot that also bolted. Despite growing in the same soil, their roots look nothing alike!
To make things even crazier, garden carrots and Queen Anneโ€™s lace are actually the exact same species and can easily cross-pollinate. If they flower at the same time, the bees definitely don't check ID! ๐Ÿโœˆ๏ธ
