Project: Queen Murphy bed + bookcase cabinetry w/doors + flip up desktop

Another incredible transition has taken place in this beautiful home on Davis Islands. After a year long recovery from flood damage due to Hurricane Milton, they decided to make this room a transitional space by adding a Murphy bed with adjoining cabinetry and a flip up desktop so the space can also serve as an office. This wall spans 11’ in width with 8 foot ceilings. Plenty of room to fit a queen size bed and two side cabinets that are 34” in width. All shelving is adjustable and the bottom doors are inset with soft close hinges. We added lights inside the Murphy cabinet and a safety plunge pin to provide safety in case the mechanism were to fail while the bed was in vertical position. We also added a 7’L x 2’W desktop with flip up brackets. This provides a ton of desk space for two people to work on at the same time if necessary. The paint we used for the Murphy is Sherwin Williams Smoky Azurite which has a nice nautical/beachy vibe in natural light but also has a bold contempory gray reveal in dim light. The desktop has Sherwin Williams Ultra White to match the moldings in the room.

We are ecstatic about the final results of this project. It truly turned out magnificent and now gives this wonderful customer a space for their guests and an office to work in when necessary.

Project: Red Oak Queen Murphy bed + cabinetry

A unique project to say the least! A lot of different challenges with this one but in 6 weeks we transformed a bedroom into a transitional, functional and tranquil space.

This valued customer wanted a space to store their book collection while also having a make shift office space and guest bedroom. Prior to this project, this room served as a committed guest bedroom and a small space with a desk. It was cramped and overcommitted. With some collaboration with the customer we were able to put together a design that would include a total of 5 cabinets with fixed shelving, a queen Murphy bed and two hinged doors for a night stand space. 100% of this lumber is a mix of cabinet grade Red Oak plywood and solid red oak hardwood. We used Rubio Monocoat USA Oil 2c Chocolate as our finish application and gold door k***s and pulls. We also dressed this up with arched face frames on the overhead cabinets and solid red oak crown molding. A safety plunge rod was also installed to ensure safety. One of the biggest challenges was the window and how we could still provide depth to these cabinets but also provide the clearance necessary around the window. So we custom made a filler on the far right side to accomplish this. We also replaced the closet door trim with solid red oak to match the rest of the project. The customer color drenched the room with a bold navy color and gold accents. The Murphy door also had red oak molding added to provide a deeper recessed look to the door. Cabinet hinged doors were milled from scratch with similar profiles to match the Murphy door.

This turned out better than we envisioned! A true classic and hopefully an inspiration to others!

September 11, 2001, will forever be pinned as one of the darkest days in USA history, and we will never forget those innocent lives that were lost on this day, nor those who continue to deal with its long-lasting impact. United we stand, divided we fall. May God bless the USA!

Project: Queen size Murphy bed with bookcase cabinetry

Another successful custom transition complete! We took a guest bedroom that wasn’t being used at its full potential and turned it into a cozy, transitional space with lots of functionality and cosmetic flare. This one was very unique due to the window that we built this entire piece around. Everything you see with exception of moldings and hardware was made from scratch and custom designed, built and installed to fit this space. Thank you to Christine Messier for hiring Custom Grains & Furniture, LLC to do this custom design, build and install.

* Queen size bed with a wood frame and shaker door front and gold door pulls.
* The side cabinets measure out at around 33”W x 92”H x 16”D and each have a drawer that’s 6” in height.
* Drawer boxes are made out of Poplar hardwood and Maple drawer bottoms and have gold drawer pulls. Soft close drawer slides installed
* Adjustable shelving on both sides
* All painted white
* Crown mold and quarter round added to finish off
* Cabinets and Murphy cabinet built from 3/4” Maple and face framing built from 3/4” Poplar
* Safety plunge rod installed to ensure safety if mechanism were to fail when bed is vertical
