🌺 🌹 🌺 Flowers are always the backdrop and prime focus of my garden on The Magic Land Homestead.
They serve many purposes and the main one is joy.
Yes I plant marigolds and nasturtium and borage to whistle to the polinators and they work to call in and to deter or disract pests.
The butterflies!!! They dance like Gypsies in my sacred garden drawn like a passionate lover to my zinnia which I did not read the tag to know some would tower above my curly gray hair.
Just look at my cutleaf coneflower it's gotta be 8-10' tall and just started blooming with little yellow unspectacular flowers.
I giggled at the nursery recently while buying 4 thornless blackberry because they were buy one get 3 free, when a gal said as she held up yarrow, Is this front of the garden?
It took me a minute to realize she was planting in layers and I assured her it was more middle of the garden or back depending on whatever else she planned.
Flowers also bring color to a somewhat boring cascade of green in veggie season until the tomatoes dot the scenery with Christmas bulbs.
In this photo on the right with the orange flowers is one of the most magnificent butterfly 🦋 attractors I ever witnessed. Tithonia torch Mexican sunflower.
They too get above my 5' 2" head and besides how many flowers do we find that are ORANGE 🧡? Butterfly heaven except for the one little girl I met recently that did not like butterflies. 🦋
And bees are so important. Who knew that letting your Italian oregano flower would draw in every single teeny tiny bee on the planet.
