When comparing remodeling bids, low prices usually come from what isn’t listed on the paper.
3 red flags to check before you sign:
1 Vague Line Items: If it just says “Bathroom remodel - $8,500” with no breakdown of materials, allowances, or plumbing steps, expect surprise change orders.
2 Unspecified Waterproofing: If they don’t explicitly name their waterproofing system (Schluter, Hydro Ban, GoBoard, etc.), moisture will eventually hit your studs.
3 Unrealistic Timelines: A 3-day custom tile shower skips necessary cure times for mortar and thin-set.
