What does a roof inspection consist of?
It could be different for every roofing company in Houston. Since there is no state requirement on how an inspection should be done each company can do an inspection the way that they see fit. Which means important things could be missed.

For Redemption Roofing we offer a FREE roof inspection that includes the whole roof and the attic space. This means getting on top of your roof and walking the whole entirety of your roof looking for any potential storm damage. Also climbing in your attic space and checking for water leaks around any ventilation or pipes that are coming out of your roof, checking the insulation for water marks, and the most important...checking your overall ventilation to make sure your attic space is properly ventilated. We will go over any issues we see with your roof and/or attic space in person after the inspection and show you what we see by taking pictures of what we saw on your roof and attic. And come up with an action plan together.

What does being an RCAT Certification Mean?
The state of Texas is unregulated for many contractors. Meaning you do not need to have a state license to do your trade. For roofing unfortunately that is the same case. This means there are NO guidelines, licensing, registration, or insurance coverage requirements for roofing contractors
You could put on a hard hat, carry a hammer, and decide that you're going to start a roofing company.
This has lead to many companies that do not keep a high standard of practice when replacing or repairing roofs on YOUR home or your neighbors home. Which could put you or your neighbors at higher risk for faulty roof jobs.
RCAT stands for Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. RCAT requires that roofing contractors go through rigourous screening and examination process before they can beome licensed and must obtain yearly continuing education. All licensed roofing contractors are required to provide proof that they have been doing busines in Texas for at least three years. These are usually established, qualified contractors that plan to be around for a long time.
If you're shopping roofing companies. Be sure to ask for their licensing, proof of insurance, and do some homework on their company. The cheapest company is usually the cheapest for a reason.
