Yayayay! Can’t wait to create this 16’x44’ exterior mural on one of the new hangars at Leesburg Executive Airport… but we need YOU to be a part! First in a series of 4 that show the journey to flight… this is the DREAM first of becoming fascinated with flight! Sponsor a part of it today at the link below!♥️🛩️
🤩(stay tuned & I’ll soon reveal some of the hidden secrets in this design!)

Something BIG is coming to Leesburg Executive Airport

Something exciting is about to take flight at the Leesburg Executive Airport!

Friends of Leesburg Public Arts is helping bring a new large-scale aviation mural project to the airport—transforming ordinary hangars into public art that celebrates aviation, our Loudoun County landscape, and the dreams that inspire us to look up.

The first mural is called “Dream.” It will depict a child looking toward an airplane flying over the Loudoun countryside—a simple moment that represents the beginning of every big dream.

And we need our community's help to make it happen.

Businesses, organizations, families, aviation enthusiasts and anyone who believes in the power of public art can be part of bringing this mural to life.

Every contribution matters—from $25 to a major sponsorship.

Help us turn a hangar into something that might inspire a future pilot, engineer, artist or dreamer.

Just joined! Would you consider checking out this great organization?

The Loudoun Arts Council is celebrating 40 years of advancing local arts!

We’re marking this milestone with merriment and invite you to join us for an Open House and Birthday Party at the Loudoun Arts Council office in downtown Leesburg on October 2nd (First Friday) from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. And speaking of merriment, it’s true “the more, the merrier,” so from now through the month of September we’re running a very special membership drive!

In the 40 days leading up to our 40th Birthday Bash we’re hoping to expand our circle of artists and arts enthusiasts in Loudoun. The first 40 individuals or organizations who register to be a new member of the Loudoun Arts Council before October 2nd (for as little as $25 a year) will receive special recognition in a photo montage that will be shown at the Open House and on our social media channels.

Your membership helps support our county’s only non-profit organization that works on behalf of all visual, performing, and literary arts. By working together, the arts community is securing more funding, greater media visibility, deeper community integration, and professional arts management resources that advance the appreciation and abilities of artists and arts organizations. Importantly, LAC forms a unified and powerful platform for strategic communication and advocacy. Do you believe the arts add value to your community, your family, and yourself? If the answer is “Yes!” to the arts, then visit our website at http://loudounarts.org and scroll down to click the big red “become a member” button.

We hope to see you on October 2 for our Birthday Bash and Open House and will share details about it in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

To try to encapsulate a life so well lived that an elementary school is named after you is a big job… luckily I had the help of a class of dedicated & creative 5th graders to help me design this one. After talking thru murals with them, they spent the year researching at the life and legacy of Elaine Thompson at the local history library.

Elaine was a writer, a teacher, a protector & champion of equal rights, historian, an involved community member, and so much more. We captured many of her traits with the Emancipation Tree in the center of the mural, a landmark from where she went to college, and also representative of how her example and encouragement now spreads seeds to the next generation.

Her inspirational quotes pictured were chosen to compel the students daily that they can be that acorn as well that grows into a mighty oak to influence & better our world. She carries the light and shines it out to show the way of a life lived in love and action for others.

The box pictured below her right quote is the handmade box of her great, great grandfather’s Freedom Papers that she donated to the Smithsonian & are now on exhibit at the National Museum of African American History & Culture in Washington, DC.

Some of the inspiring character traits she had that the students identified would inspire others are written on a variety of skin tones to show that Elaine had a heart for all.

Very excited for a ribbon cutting ceremony this Fall for this mural with her family & others in attendance who played a part in all of its research & creation. It was an honor to bring her life to a permanent spot on the school that is part of her legacy.

Some weekend progress at Lovettsville Elementary - starting to transform their front office into beautiful Western Loudoun County landscape (and a Virginia dogwood tree!)…cows, hay bales, fences, barn, 🌻 & wildflowers coming later. my hands saved evidence of ALL the green I was spray painting & I gratefully enjoyed a little break from my spray paint mask to eat dinner & take in that BEAUTIFUL view out front of the school of the real thing 😍

I always say “never trust a first coat” = these are all just a work in progress, but still so cute I had to share ♥️
