The floor's going down on the yurt at Marine Village School.
You can see the round platform taking shape now. Before we close it up, we're packing insulation into the floor and sealing it off underneath. That means 1/4-inch galvanized hardware cloth and a weather barrier across the bottom, so wind and rodents stay out and the floor stays comfortable year-round.
It's the kind of thing nobody sees once the decking's on, but it's the difference between a floor that's cold and drafty and one that holds up. Worth doing right the first time.

New build, and this one's a little different.
We broke ground on a 30-foot round yurt for Marine Village School in Marine on St. Croix. Right now it's screw footings, pressure-treated beams, and a whole lot of string line getting the circle laid out true. Round is a different animal than square, so we're taking our time on the layout before anything goes vertical.
Pretty cool to be building something the kids will actually use. We'll keep the photos coming as this one takes shape.

The calendar's filling up for fall. 🍂

Outdoor season's winding down, but the work doesn't stop. Fall and winter are prime time for interior projects: basements, bathrooms, and remodels we can knock out while it's cold out.

All wrapped up. 🏠
House wrap's on, soffit and fascia are done, and the whole addition is weather-tight. That's a good spot to pause, because windows are next and those are on order.
Once they land, we'll set them, then it's on to siding and the finish work. For now she's dried in and buttoned up against whatever the weather throws at her.
More to come when the windows show up.

Roof's done. ✅

That's the whole thing shingled and buttoned up. CertainTeed Landmark over fresh underlayment, matched across the addition and the existing house so it all reads as one roof, not a patch job.

With it dried in up top, we head to the outside next. House wrap goes on first, then soffit and fascia to finish the eaves, and siding after that.

Coming along nice. More updates as it goes.

Is your deck trying to tell you something?

Most deck problems start small and easy to ignore, until one day they're not. Here are the ones we see most, and what actually fixes them:

⚠️ Bouncy or wobbly underfoot → usually undersized framing or bad footings. The fix starts underground, with footings driven to solid ground.

⚠️ Soft, spongy boards → water's been sitting and the wood's rotting. Joist tape and proper spacing keep water moving instead of soaking in.

⚠️ Popped nails you catch with bare feet → nails work loose over time. Screws and hidden fasteners stay put.

⚠️ Gaps opening at the edges → fascia expanding and contracting with nowhere to go. Custom trim lets it move without the gaps.

⚠️ Splinters, cracks, and fading → older wood that's had a hard life. Composite means no splinters and no yearly staining.

A few of these are quick fixes. Others mean it's time to rebuild. Either way, we'll take a look and give you a straight answer.

Roof's on, and it all matches.

Here's a detail worth sharing. When you add onto a house, the new roof almost never matches the old one. Different age, different batch, sometimes a color that's been discontinued, and you're left with a seam where old meets new that you can't unsee.

On this one the existing roof was only six years old. But sitting next to the fresh shingles, it just didn't look right. So we wrote up a change order and tore the old roof off too. Fresh underlayment, new decking where it needed it, and shingles across the whole thing so it all matches, top to bottom.

It was more work, and it wasn't the cheapest route. It was the right one. Now the homeowner's got a roof that looks like it was always part of the plan.

Watch this one come together.

We're building a new attached garage onto this home. Framed, sheathed, and trusses set, all tied cleanly into the existing roofline so it looks like it was always part of the house.

There's something satisfying about this stage. A couple weeks ago it was an idea and a chalk line on the dirt. Now it's got walls and a roof taking shape, and you can stand inside and picture it done.

More photos as it goes up. Roofing, siding, and the finish work are next.
