One of the challenges of setting cabinets to build a kitchen island is there is no wall to screw to. My solution is to screw a 2x4 to the floor behind where the kick plate will sit. After I shim the cabinet as needed a couple countersunk screws lock it into place and the kick plate veneer hides the screws.
