Most people read every label in the grocery cart, then grill over whatever bag was stacked by the register.

Standard briquets are held together with binders and bulked out with fillers — that's the smell in the first ten minutes, and some of it lands on the food. Jealous Devil skips all of it: carbonized hardwood, nothing added. lump when you want a ripping-hot sear. Flex briquets when you want the same burn every time. Hex and Onyx when the cook runs overnight.

Intarsi Warm by Vallelunga & Co. — Italian porcelain drawn from the old art of inlay, the original Intarsi geometries recast in soft, velvety tones. Eight patterns named for the ancient world, in 24×48 with a Satin 3D finish that holds light instead of bouncing it. Slip-rated, so the pattern can run underfoot too. It reaches the States through Rickert Tile, and in this region it lands on one showroom floor — ours.

This is BPI Prestige engineered European white oak, new on our floor. It comes in more than 15 colors, and every one of them is created by a fuming process — the boards are smoked, and the longer they stay in, the more gray comes through the grain.

The planks are wide. 9½" and 10¼", which is what you want in a great room, an open kitchen, or anywhere a narrower board would make the space feel busier than it is.
