As we transitioned away from the ACL, our focus is shifting toward the backyard player — the people who love the game just as much as the tournament players do.

What was the first big tournament you ever signed up for?

Back in 2021, my wife and I headed down to San Diego for an ACL Open. Walking into that ballroom and seeing what must have been 100 sets of boards set up... man, the nerves went from zero to overdrive instantly. Going from playing at the usual Wednesday night pizza spot to a massive ballroom is a whole different world.

That night, I signed up for the intermediate blind draw. I took a second just to scope the layout, listen to the chorus of bags hitting the wood, and ground myself. (Just remember: the boards are still 27 feet apart, no matter how loud the room is.)

I got paired up with a younger guy from Northern California who was even newer to the scene than I was. We just clicked, fed off each other's energy, and went on a heck of a run to finish 2nd in the whole draw!

Who remembers their first time breaking out of your comfort zone and leaving the backyard or family gatherings when you throw bags. It was back in September 2020 when I decided to get out of my comfort zone and try to meet other people and throw some bags. It was that moment I realized I was really bad at this game and needed to put more effort into practice and kept showing up to a local tournament. Which do you prefer local blind draws or throwing with friends in the backyard? These days it’s the backyard for me.

How often do you play a week? Used to play a couple times a week, now it’s just an afternoon throwing bags in the backyard. Where is your favorite place to play, backyard, local blind draws or big tournaments? Mine these days is the backyard where you have options firing up the grill, cooking some burgers or a steak and enjoying your favorite drink of choice.

Set the boards out today—it’s been a minute since I’ve thrown bags! 🎯
How was your Sunday? Were you glued to football, knocking out errands, or hosting a BBQ with friends and family?
They always say "practice with a purpose," but do you actually go out there with a goal in mind?
My main focus today was dialing in my pitch: slowing down my movement to find that smooth, repeatable consistency at the release, all while keeping a loose, relaxed grip on the bag. When you aren't fighting your own throw, the flat bag follows.
