It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of a valued member of the Helicopter Express family.

Yesterday, while conducting firefighting operations on the Gold Mountain Fire, our pilot, Nicholas Dale, was involved in an accident at the dip site while flying one of our Kaman K-1200 K-MAX N40HX. Tragically, Nick did not survive.

This is a heartbreaking loss for everyone at Helicopter Express and throughout the aerial firefighting community. Nick’s dedication, professionalism, and commitment to protecting others will never be forgotten.

Nick is survived by his beloved wife, two children, and his extended Helicopter Express family, all of whom are mourning an unimaginable loss.

Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, fellow crewmembers, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

We also ask that you keep Nick’s loved ones, as well as the entire wildland firefighting community, in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest in peace, Nick. Your legacy of service and sacrifice will never be forgotten, and you will always be a part of the Helicopter Express family.

Helicopter Express is proud to respond to the wildfires affecting South Georgia. As a Georgia-based company, we don't often get the opportunity to directly serve our community in times of crisis—but when we do, we answer the call.

Our crews and aircraft are on the ground supporting firefighting efforts, working alongside first responders to protect homes, forests, and the families who call this region home.

This is what being a good neighbor means. We're honored to help.

Helicopter Express was recently awarded a 170-day, three-year firefighting contract with CMC Savunma Sanayi A.S. for two Sikorsky S-64 Skycranes to support the Turkish General Directorate of Forestry’s national wildfire response.

Fire Season 2021 is in full swing so it was time to go and check on all our hardworking crews. Helicopter Express management flew 19 legs, just over 4900 nautical miles, and covered 8 states to visit 15 of the 24 working helicopters . We tried to reach everyone, but mother nature and wildfire smoke had a different plan for us. This trip took 6 days and it was a great to see everyone in their natural environment.
