Before & After: A good read…
💚 What Happens When You Just Show Up.
A few months ago, I saw this older guy out trying to mow his front yard. It was a hot one. You know one of those Kansas days where the sun hits just different. He looked like he was pushing through it, but struggling a bit. You could tell, he probably needed the help, but wouldn’t take it. I made a mental note to swing back by next time we were in the neighborhood.
Well… next time came, and that lawn looked exactly the same—half-done, mower tracks stopped cold.
We knocked. No answer. We left and left a card in the door and went on with our route. Weeks passed. Still no word….honestly? I thought that was probably it.
Then—bam— out of nowhere my phone rings.
✨It was him✨ He said he held on to our card and asked if we could stop by. When we pulled up, we saw right away: this wasn’t a quick mow
- It was a rescue! ⛑️
His wife stepped out and asked if we’d be willing to help out with the backyard too. No hesitation—I called my wife, and we got to work together. I handled the front — mowing, edging, trimming. She tackled the sticks, branches, and everything else hiding in the back.
This wasn’t just a regular mow.
You could feel it — this yard hadn’t had help in a long time. It was layered in years, not leaves. But by the time we were done, there was light coming back into that space.
No, it’s not perfect. But it’s better.
We hope they’ll let us keep going at it, little by little.
Sometimes people just need someone to show up and care. ❤️
