We’re incredibly grateful to the City of Catoosa for the opportunity to design the new Blue Whale of Catoosa Visitors Center.

Being part of a project connected to one of the most recognizable landmarks along Route 66 is truly special. We’re honored to play a role in celebrating the upcoming Route 66 Centennial by helping preserve and elevate a destination that has created memories for generations of travelers along the Mother Road.

We’re excited to see this project cross the finish line, and proud to contribute to the future of this iconic Oklahoma landmark.

Be sure to join the celebration at the Grand Opening Party this weekend and help welcome this exciting new addition to one of Route 66’s most beloved destinations!

What if one building could become the heart of a community? COLLABORATIVE DESIGN makes that possible.

Studio 45 Architects is giving a sneak-peak into one of our newest projects as the design process continues: Mustang Marketplace designed for and with The City of Mustang, Oklahoma.

A place designed to bring people together, Mustang Marketplace will serve as a weekly Farmers Market, Learning Center, Wedding Venue, and flexible event space for year-round activities, while complementing the existing adjacent playground, Brittany's Play Adventure.

The heart of the building features a large open hall with a vaulted ceiling and clerestory windows, filling the space with abundant natural light and creating a welcoming atmosphere for a wide variety of events. Additional amenities include a full kitchen, interior restrooms for event guests, and exterior-access restrooms conveniently located to serve visitors enjoying Brittany's Play Adventure.

To support weddings and special celebrations, the second-story balcony will include dedicated Bridal and Groom suites, connected by an open interior staircase overlooking the main event space.

Working with the City of Mustang throughout this design process has been a fun and rewarding collaboration, and we’re excited to continue shaping this project together. Stay tuned for more updates as Mustang Marketplace comes to life!

At Studio 45 Architects, for many years we have used LiDAR scanning technology as a powerful tool for understanding and documenting existing buildings—especially for remodels and historical preservation projects.

We’re excited to share that we’ve added a new LiDAR scanner to our toolkit, significantly expanding our capacity to capture spaces with greater speed, precision, and detail. This upgrade allows us to generate highly accurate construction documents while also producing realistic, data-rich imagery that enhances both internal workflows and client presentations.

From uncovering the nuances of older structures to streamlining the path toward thoughtful design solutions, this investment reinforces our commitment to accuracy, clarity, and innovation in every project we take on.

And of course, Mr. Brown, our resident office dog, is always available to assist with any scanner-related questions—pending the appropriate treat-to-answer ratio.

Currently under construction, this 48,000-square-foot campus will serve students from Kindergarten through 8th grade, creating a modern learning environment designed to inspire growth, curiosity, and success.

The project is targeting LEED Silver certification, a nationally recognized standard for sustainable building design that highlights energy efficiency, water conservation, healthier indoor spaces, and environmentally responsible construction practices.

We’re proud to help bring this innovative and future-focused school to life for the Sells community. Stay tuned for more updates as construction continues!

We’re excited to share a project update on the Blue Whale of Catoosa Visitor’s Center! Rapidly nearing completion, the building is beginning to take on an iconic form of its own—one that complements the whimsy and legacy of this beloved landmark.

At Studio 45 Architects, this project has been about more than just a structure. It’s a tribute to the life and vision of its original builder, Hugh Davis, a celebration of a deep-rooted connection to nature, and a continuation of the joy that has made this stop along Route 66 so memorable for generations.

As we approach the Route 66 Centennial celebrations, we’re proud to help shape a space that honors the past while inviting new stories to unfold. Stay tuned—this one’s going to be special.

At Studio 45 Architects, we bring a diverse and hands-on approach to industrial design. Our experience spans new construction and adaptive reuse—from large-scale metal buildings supporting advanced machining operations, to maintenance facilities serving Oklahoma’s tribal nations, to efficient office spaces within industrial parks.

We understand that industrial projects demand a careful balance of value, performance, and technical precision. At the same time, we believe these spaces can—and should—reflect the identity of the people and operations within them. Our goal is to elevate each project beyond a standard metal building, creating environments that are both highly functional and distinctly “your building.”

Final walk-throughs are always a mix of precision and excitement—and this week was no exception. Studio 45 was in Stillwater checking the finishing touches on The Hub Tonkawa, making sure every detail is dialed in as it prepares to open its doors as the city’s newest destination for connection and fun.

While we were in town helping “tune up” Stillwater’s latest entertainment hotspot, our own Austin from S45 took things a step further—tackling The Mid South, Stillwater’s world-famous 100-mile gravel bike race across the rolling country roads surrounding the city. A little quality control by day, a little grit and gravel by weekend.

From projects like The Hub to events that draw people from across the country, Stillwater continues to prove itself as a place where growth, community, and fun are always at the forefront.

Studio 45 Architects is proud to highlight a two-part past project on the campus of Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma — the renovation of the historic Jack Dobbins Field House.

Originally constructed with an impressive Lamella Roof Truss system, the field house is a unique example of structural ingenuity in athletic facility design. Lamella trusses use a crisscrossing network of diagonal members called "lamellas" (see photo), that form a diamond pattern, creating a strong, lightweight roof capable of spanning large spaces without interior columns. This distinctive structure was utilized extensively for arenas and hanger construction pre-WW1 and WW2 for the ability to use local lumber materials AND the ease in mass-producing relatively small members. This helped define the character of the facility and provided the wide-open space needed for athletics and campus events.

The project was completed in two phases:

Phase 1 focused on replacing the roof system while preserving the original Lamella truss framing, allowing the historic structural system to remain intact while improving the building’s performance and durability.

Phase 2 involved rehabilitation of the interior of the facility, including updates to interior finishes and improvements that better support student and athletic activities. As part of this work, the original wooden basketball court was refinished and restriped, restoring the playing surface and highlighting the central role the court plays within the field house.

Through both phases, the design approach emphasized maintaining the character of the original structure while extending the life of this important campus landmark. The completed work allows Jack Dobbins Field House to continue serving Northeastern State University while celebrating the architectural heritage that makes the building unique.

Studio 45 Architects is proud to support a gnarly new fundraiser benefiting the new Turkey Mountain Visitor’s Center in Tulsa. River Parks Authority Executive Director Jeff Edwards is taking on an incredible challenge—riding 110 miles of trails—to raise funds for a new visitor’s center that will serve as a hub for education, conservation, and community at Turkey Mountain.

Turkey Mountain is a treasured asset for Tulsans and the surrounding region. We encourage everyone who enjoys the trails, values conservation, and believes in investing in meaningful public spaces to support the River Parks Authority in this effort. Together, we can help build a place that brings the community together while preserving one of Tulsa’s most beloved natural landscapes.
