We’ve got this cool, unique plant in stock now 🙂

When in bloom, Rattlesnake Master (Eryngium yuccifolium) has few rivals for its ability to attract a diversity of floral visitors. Bumble bees, yellow-faced bees, sweat bees, etc. Multiple beetles, wasps, and dozens of fly species regularly visit the plant. The plant is also a host for the Eryngium stem-borer moth (a candidate for endangered species listing).

Rattlesnake Master often gets overlooked because of its common name. The name comes from the root that was used by indigenous Americans to treat snake bites. It’s a unique button shaped flower that begs your attention. It blooms from June to August in full sun. It prefers drier soils. A drought tolerant plant you will never have to water.

Great for cut flower gardens, pollinator gardens, prairie gardens, or cottage gardens. Because people tend to want to touch it, I also recommend for children’s or sensory gardens.

Who all loves ferns??

We’ve got FOUR different species of native ferns/spleenworts in the shop this week that were grown from collected spores by the awesome Life-Affirming Farm!

Native ferns can be difficult to find for sale, especially ones that haven’t been wild-collected, which isn’t good for our local populations.
