Empty classrooms don't mean an empty risk.

Cutting HVAC over summer break saves on energy costs, but it also lets humidity build up fast inside classrooms, gyms, and libraries with barely any airflow to offset it. Give that eight to ten weeks of quiet and you've got exactly what mold needs to take hold on ceiling tiles, carpet, and drywall, usually without anyone around to catch it early.

A lot of schools have already started the semester, or are about to, but that doesn't mean it's too late. Catching it now, early in the semester, is a lot easier than dealing with it once it's had months to spread.

SERVPRO works with schools and facilities teams to monitor humidity and catch problem areas before they get worse as the semester goes on.

If your campus ran reduced HVAC this summer, don't wait to have it checked. The earlier it's caught, the less disruptive it is down the road.

You don't need a leak to get water damage. Sometimes the air alone is enough.

Once walls are open and framing is exposed, humidity starts working its way into everything, drywall, subfloor, insulation, you name it. Left unchecked, that trapped moisture sets up the perfect conditions for mold, warping, and delays nobody saw coming.

That's why SERVPRO works hand in hand with general contractors to monitor humidity on active job sites, not after something goes wrong, but while the build is still underway. Keeping moisture in check protects the timeline, the materials, and the final result.

If you're a contractor (or working with one) on a project right now, this is one of those details that's easy to overlook and expensive to skip.💧

Did you know a slow leak under your sink could be causing damage you can't even see? What starts as a small drip can quietly soak into cabinetry, subflooring, and drywall long before you ever notice warped wood, a musty smell, or a soft spot in the floor. By the time those signs show up, mold growth may have already started.

If you suspect a hidden leak in your kitchen or bathroom, don't wait for the damage to become visible. Our team is trained to detect moisture, extract water, and thoroughly dry the affected area to help protect your home.

Think you might have a leak? Give us a call!

You had water damage. You pulled out some fans, cracked a window, maybe ran a dehumidifier for good measure. A couple days later, the floor feels dry underfoot, so you figure the hard part's over.

Here's what that "dry" feeling doesn't tell you: it's only measuring the surface. Underneath, the subfloor, the padding, the baseboards can still be holding onto moisture that fans and time never actually reached. And that trapped water doesn't just sit there quietly. It's exactly what mold needs to get started, and it can spread beneath your flooring for days or even weeks before you'd notice anything from above.

That's the difference with professional drying. Instead of guessing, our team at SERVPRO of Southeast Austin uses moisture meters to actually measure how wet materials are below the surface, then places commercial dehumidifiers and air movers specifically to reach the moisture that's trapped, not just move air around a room. We don't call a space dry until the numbers confirm it, before any flooring goes back down or repairs begin.

If your home or business has had water damage, don't let "it feels dry" be the final word. Moisture you can't see is still moisture that can cause real damage.

A tree through the roof. That's the kind of storm damage nobody misses. It's dramatic, it's obvious, and it gets handled fast because there's no question something is wrong.

It's the damage you don't see that tends to cause the real headaches later. A missing shingle. A small crack in the flashing. Nothing that looks urgent enough to deal with today. But roofs don't work in isolation, and even a little water intrusion can travel further than you'd think, working its way into attic insulation, ceilings, and walls long before anything looks wrong on the surface.
That's what makes this kind of damage tricky. There's no stain yet. No musty smell yet. Just quiet moisture doing quiet damage, until eventually it isn't quiet anymore, and you're dealing with mold growth, warped drywall, electrical issues, or weakened structural components instead of a simple roof repair.

After any significant storm, whether the damage is dramatic or barely noticeable, it's worth having it looked at. Our team at SERVPRO of Southeast Austin checks more than just the roof. We look at what's happening underneath it too.

Don't wait for the visible signs. By then, it's already a bigger job.

Most business owners don't think about disaster planning until they're in the middle of one. By then, it's already too late to plan, you're just reacting.

A burst pipe, an electrical fire, a storm that knocks out power for days, none of these give you a heads up. What they do give you is a choice: scramble to figure things out on the fly, or already have a plan ready to go.

That's the idea behind the Emergency READY Profile SERVPRO of Southeast Austin offers at no cost. Our team comes out, walks your property with you, and documents the details that actually matter in a crisis, shutoff valve locations, priority contacts, building layout, the stuff you don't want to be hunting for while water's actively spreading. It's a one-time walkthrough that pays off exactly when you need it to.

And it genuinely changes the outcome. When our crews already have a clear picture of your property before we ever arrive for a loss, response time speeds up, which means less damage and less downtime. The businesses that bounce back fastest are consistently the ones that had a plan before they needed one.

If your business doesn't have that in place yet, now's the time.

Bleach is not a mold removal solution, and that's true no matter how hard you scrub. It might lighten or remove the color of surface mold, but bleach does not kill mold growing in porous materials like drywall, wood, or insulation, and it does nothing for the spores already spreading behind your walls, under your flooring, or through your HVAC system.

Here's the part that makes it even more misleading: cleaning with bleach can actually mask the problem. That "clean" spot on the wall looks handled, but the source of moisture and the hidden colonies feeding off it are still very much there, growing where you can't see them.

That's exactly why professional mold remediation is the only real path forward. Our team at SERVPRO of Southeast Austin uses proper containment, air filtration, and moisture control to remove mold at the actual source, not just off the surface, and we track down the root cause, whether it's a slow leak, poor ventilation, or damage from a past water issue, so it doesn't just come right back.

If you're noticing a musty smell, discoloration, or you've had water damage in the past, skip the bleach entirely and let's get to the actual source of the problem.

When disaster hits your home or business, the last thing you want is to wait on a crew driving in from another city. That's the difference with SERVPRO of Southeast Austin. We're not some far-off call center dispatching whoever's available. We're your neighbors. Our team lives in this community and works in this community, so when you call, we're not figuring out logistics from scratch, we're already close.

Being local isn't just about speed either, though speed matters a lot when water or fire damage is involved. Every hour that passes gives mold more time to grow and damage more time to spread, so getting a crew on site fast can genuinely change the outcome of your cleanup. But local also means something bigger: accountability. We're not a name you'll never hear from again after the job's done. Our reputation in this community is built one job at a time, so we show up, we do it right, and we stand behind our work. And if something comes up again months or years down the road, we're still right here, easy to reach and ready to help.

You get the personal attention and quick response of a local, community-based team, backed by the training, equipment, and proven process of a trusted national brand. That's a combination that's hard to beat when you need help fast.

When disaster strikes, choose local. Choose SERVPRO.

Mold is one of those problems that doesn't stay small if you ignore it, especially in a commercial space.

Once it takes hold, it's not just a maintenance issue. It can affect your employees' health, damage inventory or equipment, and become obvious to customers the second they walk in. There's no specific exposure limit for mold under OSHA, but business owners still carry a duty to keep the workplace safe, so unresolved mold can turn into a real liability.

It affects insurance too. A lot of commercial policies only cover mold if it's tied to something sudden, like a pipe burst or storm damage, not a slow leak that went unnoticed for weeks or months.

If your building deals with humidity, past water damage, or HVAC issues, it's worth getting ahead of it. Catching moisture problems early is almost always faster and cheaper than dealing with mold that's already spread behind walls or under flooring.

If your home has ever taken on water from a rising creek or storm flooding, you already know the cleanup part isn't as simple as letting things dry out.

Rising water is considered contaminated. It carries silt, bacteria, and sometimes sewage, which makes it very different from a clean water leak inside your house. That contamination is really what determines whether something can be saved, not just how wet it got.

Porous things like carpet padding and some upholstery usually can't be salvaged once contaminated water soaks in. But furniture, electronics, and a lot of textiles can often be professionally cleaned and kept, depending on the material and how long they were sitting in water. Photos and important documents need special handling too, so those are worth pulling out and dealing with early.

One more thing worth knowing: mold can start growing within 24 to 48 hours in our heat and humidity. So if flooding hits your home, the faster you get things assessed, the more you're likely to save.

If you're dealing with this right now, give us a call. We'll help you figure out what's salvageable.
