Nobody wants their bathroom to feel like a care facility, and with the right design choices, it never has to.

Today’s safest bathroom products are designed to look like what they are in the hands of a skilled designer: beautiful, considered choices. Grab bars that match your faucet finish. Lever handles that are easier on the hands. Slip-resistant tile looks from natural stone to wood. A curbless shower that feels open and modern. Lighting that’s both safer at night and more flattering in the mirror.

The best time to think about aging in place is before you need to. When safety features are part of the original design, you can choose them for how they look as well as how they work, and you don’t have to do everything at once.

Grab bars, levered handles, layered lighting, and more: five bathroom updates for aging in place that don't look like hospital equipment.

When Katherine and John set out to remodel their home among the pines, they wanted a team they could trust from the first sketch to the final walkthrough. They needed a larger kitchen and a quieter, more contemporary interior that let the outdoors in. 🐦 🦆 🌲 🦌

We’re so grateful they let us be part of it and that they sat down to share their story with us. Thank you, Katherine and John. This is what generations of craft and care look like.

After 25 years of living in a worn 1980s vacation home, these Black Butte homeowners knew exactly what they wanted to change. So they changed nearly everything.

Senior Designer Amy Hekker and our Bend team reimagined the home inside and out. We built a vaulted kitchen addition, which includes a glass-topped peninsula (a client wish list item from the first meeting). We also created a new sheltered entry, rebuilt three bathrooms, added windows and skylights, and gave them what they may have been missing the most: a garage (no more scraping ice every winter!). We kept the original wood floors and the warmth that made it home.
“It feels like us, and literally every day we count our blessings that we did this work.”

A game changer in home energy is coming to Oregon!

We’re bringing Sigenergy North America to our Portland Design Center. This integrated energy system combines solar power, battery storage, EV charging, and energy management to help homeowners explore new ways to power their homes.

The team is installing the system so you can experience it firsthand, test it with your own EV, and learn more about how it could work in your home.

Stay tuned, appointments will be available soon!

The finished kitchen, the beautiful tile, and the new cabinets. Those are the fun parts to show off. But a lot of great remodeling happens long before the final reveal.

It's Friday! This kitchen had good bones, but it needed a refresh to make it feel more open, functional, and true to the homeowners’ style.

The transformation brings in a Midcentury Modern feel with warm cherry cabinets, high-end appliances, and a textured backsplash. By removing the raised bar and a few walls, NK Bend designer Jamie Rupprecht and her team opened up the kitchen to the rest of the main floor, making the space feel more connected.

And it’s the little details that really bring it all together, from custom cherry refrigerator handles and carefully matched wood grain to lighting that highlights the finished space. We even refinished the existing maple floors to tie everything together.

Swipe through to see how thoughtful design and remodeling can make such a difference in how a home looks and feels!

What happens when the power goes out at a fire station?

It’s more than an inconvenience. It can impact the people who are there to respond when their community needs them most. We’re happy to see our work with the Lyle Fire District come full circle with their new solar + storage system. Neil Kelly Solar installed a 49.72 kW PV system paired with 37.62 kWh of battery storage, powered by Sigenergy technology, to help keep critical operations running when the grid goes down.

We love projects like these because they show how energy resilience can mean so much more than keeping the lights on at home. It can help support the people and places our communities rely on every day.

Since 1953, the Lyle Fire District has been a neighbor helping neighbors. We’re proud to have played a small part in supporting them.
