I don't normally do septic work. Today a client had been having mystery water in their basement. I was there on an unrelated task and they mentioned water in the basement. After digging off 4" of dirt off the lid I found a mass of roots in the 1st tank. The septic company couldn't come out so I did what was needed to get the water moving again.

This is where the years of experience comes in. Client recently drilled the 2 holes in the back wall. He noticed a drip in the basement about a week later. I could see the water on the 3/4" line in the basement and it didn't seem like the new holes would cause it. My initial cut into the drywall on the right didn't even have wet wood on the surface. I pried back the baseboard trim to reveal 2 finish nails shot into the pipe.

The winds from this blizzard are causing many P-traps to go dry. If you have a guest bathroom or one not usually used, you may need to flush toilets and run faucets in tubs and sinks to replace water. Also think about floor drains and laundry. This will prevent sewer gas from coming into your homes.

Customer had a leaking tub drain and wanted to change the valve and tub trim. Cast iron is as heavy as I remember.
