A real unexpected turn of events this week on Cape cod for a new customer. I was there for a simple outdoor shower swap from an original moen to convert to a Symmons valve. Outdoor shower jobs are always fun because I know the end result always bring the owner a lot of joy, especially down the Cape! Well, on my way out the door I kept smelling a burning odor but could not isolate the location, until the light came through the basement in just the right direction where I could see smoke emanating from the electric water heater. The unit was Appx 15 years old and had some sketchy work done to it by previous owner. The current owner was out of town for 2 weeks and I’m still not positive what would have happened if this was left unattended. The breaker did not trip so I assume this would have ended poorly. Anywho, ripped out the troubled unit , replaced with a simple 55 gallon 10 year warranty tank , fixed all the “handyman” style repairs and now we should be good to go for many years. Some pics attached for a reminder to always check your appliances and make sure they are in safe working order
