Some of the most common landscape plants are also the ones quietly spreading beyond your yard. 🌿
The good news? Native alternatives give you the same beauty — without the long-term damage.

🔄 Smart Plant Swaps:

• Bradford Pear ➜ Serviceberry
Same spring blooms, but serviceberry adds edible fruit and supports local wildlife

• Japanese Barberry ➜ Ninebark
Dense hedge structure without creating pest-friendly conditions

• Burning Bush ➜ Virginia Sweetspire
Even richer fall color plus pollinator-friendly summer flowers

• Japanese Wisteria ➜ American Wisteria
Same cascading blooms, but controlled growth that won’t damage trees or structures

• English Ivy ➜ Creeping Phlox
Evergreen groundcover with seasonal blooms — no aggressive takeover

• Japanese Honeysuckle ➜ Trumpet Honeysuckle
Vibrant flowers that attract hummingbirds without smothering nearby plants

🌱 How to Transition:

• Check local invasive plant lists — some may already be restricted
• Replace invasives immediately after removal to prevent re-growth
• Look for native plant nurseries — often same price or cheaper
• Plant in spring for best establishment

🌿 The difference isn’t how they look today — it’s how they behave over time.

Swap invasive plants for natives, and your garden becomes part of the solution — not the problem.
