The River Walk. Designed by Rebekah Lamphere of Hartland Designs, installed by Lamphere Stoneworks. This shows the process. The work on paper, the selection of stone, the installation. Over 90' long and 7+' wide.

The River Walk. I designed this walkway to mimic the currents in a river. Two main currents flow through the entire walk, while lesser currents flow "under" and around them. They are interupted by boulders at the edge of the river, which force the currents to move around then. In this video, we start at the "whirlpool" and end at the falls (steps).

The River Walk was inspired by a beautiful, short walkway at the Maine Botanical Garden which leads to their Zen garden. I saw a photo of it and thought, "I can do that, and more, for my client, who needs a walkway to get them from their house to their pool."

I worked in collaboration with Lamphere Stoneworks to make this vision on paper a stone reality. Yes, this is all made from stone- limestone and bluestone, with green marble from Vermont that makes up the center of the whirlpool.

I planted the banks of the River Walk with grasses and mostly native flowers. Prarie Dropseed, Karl Forster grass, northern sea oats, cardinal flower, milkweed, liatris, and iris. Some sedum is worked in around the boulders, and Solomons seal is in the shadier section, along with native geranium and anenome. I wanted it to feel like the edge of a river bank, and i wanted it to have movement in the wind. The one tree we planted is a fringe tree, it's fragrant blooms greeting you as you approach the green gate.

This walkway was installed at a private estate in the Berkshires.

Today I've just learned of the passing of my dear friend, mentor and colleague, Ricky Klein. I met Ricky about 8 years ago on a job for a mutual client. He took me under his wing. He became the person I called when I needed excavation work done, or when I needed materials delivered. I was the only one he would loan his tracksteer to. He gave me a lot of valuable business advice and encouragement. He claimed to be "retired", but he was still working harder then most people my age.
Sometimes you just feel like God puts people in your path to help you grow to the next level. Ricky was a gift from God, and I just loved him. I met Ricky's family and became pretty good friends with his son Brendan who worked with his dad on all the jobs we did together.
Ricky was so kind, so generous, so protective. He was also a real character, full of comical expressions and with an amusing way of expressing himself. We have built a lot of beautiful landscapes together, and we taught each other a lot about our prospective fields. I haven't made a single equipment or truck purchase in 8 years without consulting him first. I will miss him so much and for so many reasons. Thank you Ricky for blessing my life.

The wonderful crew at Hartland Designs has ended their 2021 season. From Spring and Fall cleanups, to planting thousands of annuals, building walls, steps, and patios, to complete garden makeovers, laying sod, lawn mowing, planting trees, gardens and bulbs- this group of people have been the tops. Positive, hardworking, enthusiastic, thinking, and compassionate with one another. They give each others rides to work, send out funny or sweet group messages over weekends, record their accomplishments with pride. It has been a great season all around and it is thanks in large part to this terrific crew. We have had our setbacks to be sure, 3 of our members contracted and recovered from COVID, 3 of our other members moved on to other jobs during the season, one injured his back, it rained for the entire month of July....I could go on, but only to point out that these people are resilient and tough and I (boss lady) just love them- and they know it.

This is a set of walkways I'm very proud of. I had 3 different points of entry that were not perpendicular to one another. I decided to create a wheel with the paths being the spokes. That way the spokes can come from any angle or be any width and the wheel neutralizes the differences. The wheel is made of multi colored granite Cobble stone. The paths are sliced limestone. We cut them to match the radius of the wheel. I love the hourglass path. This was quite a collaboration between myself and my father and brother of Lamphere Stoneworks. Their talent and skill are unsurpassed.

This was the original view from the deck after we cleared the invasive Norway Maples and some scraggly evergreens. There's no privacy and nothing beautiful to look at. A rough finger sketch on the iPad showed the client the concept I was going for. And after more plans and discussion the result speaks for itself. My son sits on the steps in the last photo, surrounded by the walls he spent much of the summer building.

Some before and after shots of a portion of an Albany landscape that got a major makeover. Concrete removed, fence erected, path widened, step replaced, grades adjusted, gutter pipe installed, dry well installed, stone walls built, bluestone path set, fresh topsoil added, then planted and mulched. This whole back yard and side bank has been renovated, and it's been done in several phases over several years. The first phase was just to remove the forest of Norway Maples and choked out evergreens on the slope. I'll be showing some more before and after shots of the other phases. We are all very pleased w the results. did the stone work, the walls most notably by my son Gable. My brother Kyle did all the excavation, and helped solve the watershed issues. He and my father also did the steps and walkways. Love doing family projects. My uncle and nephew also worked on this. That's my mother working as my field technician- pretty special.
