Home charging can make owning an EV significantly more convenient, but the installation needs to account for the charger, circuit requirements and your home's existing electrical capacity.

🍂 TUESDAY TIP

As we head into cooler weather and spend a little more time outside, take a look at the electrical equipment around your home.

Check outdoor receptacle covers for damage, look for cracked or damaged cords, and make sure outdoor electrical equipment is designed for outdoor use.

And if you've got an outdoor outlet that hasn't worked since approximately 2007... 😂 we can probably help with that too.

👃 LEARN SOMETHING MONDAY

A burning or "hot plastic" smell near an outlet, switch, electrical panel, or appliance is NOT something to ignore.

Electrical problems can create heat before you ever see visible damage.

If you notice an unexplained electrical burning smell, especially with heat, discoloration, buzzing, smoke, or repeated breaker trips, stop using the affected equipment or circuit and have the problem evaluated.

🔥 That's one October smell we definitely don't want in the house.

🎃 WEEKEND WISDOM

If an extension cord has become a permanent part of your room décor... it might be time to talk about adding an outlet. 😉

Extension cords are intended for temporary use and shouldn't become a long-term substitute for adequate receptacles.

If you're constantly reaching for power strips and extension cords because your home simply doesn't have outlets where you need them, there may be a better solution.

"What exactly is a GFCI outlet for?"

GFCI protection is designed to quickly interrupt power when it detects an imbalance in electrical current, helping reduce the risk of electric shock.

That's why you'll commonly find GFCI protection in areas where electricity and moisture may meet, such as kitchens, bathrooms, garages and outdoor locations.

Those little TEST and RESET buttons have an important job.

Electrical safety isn't a trick. It's built into a properly protected system. ⚡

👻 TUESDAY TIP

Got a "dead" outlet?

Before assuming something major has happened, check nearby GFCI outlets to see whether one has tripped.

One GFCI receptacle can sometimes protect additional outlets downstream, so the outlet that isn't working may not be the one that needs to be reset.

If resetting the GFCI doesn't solve it, or it won't stay reset, that's when it's time to investigate further.

Not every dead outlet is haunted. 😉⚡
