The covers are going on and the season is winding down, so HCJ Holly wanted to say it herself: thank you.

To everyone who had us at their pool every week, called us for a repair or a new pump, or just keeps our number handy, we appreciate you trusting HCJ with your backyard this year.

One last thing before we go quiet for the winter: we still have a few closing spots open. If your pool is not buttoned up yet, call or text 757-271-8822 and we’ll get you on the schedule.

See everyone in the spring!

We made this so you can see what you are actually paying for when you close a pool.

Most of a closing happens where you cannot see it. The lines under your deck, the skimmer throat buried in concrete, the drain plugs on your pump. That is where freeze damage starts, and it is the part a cheap closing skips.

Four things matter most:

Water dropped to the bottom of the skimmer, so nothing is sitting in the throat to freeze
Every line blown out with compressed air and plugged
Pump, filter and heater drained with the plugs pulled
A cover that is actually tight, not just laid on top

Nights in Hampton Roads are starting to drop. Once they stay below 60, it is time.

CPO certified techs, digital report with photos and your closing chemistry the same day.

Closing your pool wrong doesn't show up in November. It shows up in April.

Every spring we get the same calls in Hampton Roads: cracked plumbing, a failed heater, water you can't see the bottom of. Almost all of it traces back to a rushed pool closing.

A professional closing from HCJ Pool Services includes:

Water chemistry balanced to protect surfaces and equipment
Closing shock, algaecide, and stain and scale prevention
Return and skimmer lines blown out and plugged
Water level lowered, fittings and ladders removed
Winter cover installed
A digital service report with photos and your water chemistry readings

The right window in Virginia is September to mid-November, once nighttime temperatures stay below 60 degrees. Wait for the first freeze and you are gambling with your plumbing and heater.

Serving Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, and Suffolk. Our fall schedule fills fast.

Call 757-271-8822 to get on the schedule today.

Hi, HCJ Holly here. Let's talk about pool covers.

I know, I know, it's still summer and the last thing you want to think about is closing your pool. So don't. Keep swimming, enjoy it.

But here's the little secret us pool people know: the best time to deal with your cover is right now, while nobody else is thinking about it.

If your cover is fraying, sagging, ripping at the straps, or it barely made it through last winter, order the new one today. Custom covers take a few weeks to come in, and once the weather turns, everybody orders at once. That's when the waiting and the backorders start.

Handle it now, and when it's finally time to close up, you're ready. No scramble, no stress.

Want us to check if your cover has one more season in it? Call HCJ Pool Services at 757-271-8822 and we'll take a look and shoot you a quote. No pressure.

That's it. Go enjoy the rest of your summer.

💧 How often should you clean your pool's skimmer and pump baskets?

Great question, and the answer is simpler than you'd think.

✅ Skimmer baskets: at least once a day
✅ Pump basket: as needed (check it regularly!)

Now, you might be wondering, "Doesn't HCJ already clean those during service?" We sure do! But think of it like going to the dentist 🦷 even with regular professional cleanings, you still brush every day in between to keep everything healthy. Your pool baskets are the same. Our service keeps things in great shape, but a quick daily cleanout between visits stops debris from building up and straining your circulation system.

Little habits = clear water, better flow, and equipment that lasts longer. 🏊‍♂️

Ever had a pool company show up, do their thing, and leave you guessing what actually happened? 🏊

We don't do "clean and leave." We don't slap a paper door hanger on your gate that says "we were here" and disappear.

After every single visit, HCJ Pool Services sends you a digital service report straight to your inbox, complete with:

📸 Photos from the visit so you can see your pool
🧪 Your actual chemical readings
✅ Exactly what we did and what we recommend

No wondering whether the tech really came. No guessing what got done. You get a clear, time-stamped picture of your pool's health after every appointment, and it's included at no extra charge, because keeping you informed is just how we operate.

That's what transparency looks like. You should never have to take "trust me, it's handled" as the answer.

Want to save money AND energy this summer? 💸⚡ Your pool pump might be the most expensive appliance you own — old single-speed pumps run full power, all the time, right when your electric bill is already spiking.
A variable-speed pump can slash that cost and runs so quietly you'll forget it's on. It pays for itself.
We install them across Hampton Roads.
