These colors don’t run, but this lacquer does 🤦‍♂️
Get ready though! Working on a Back the Blue guitar that will be listed on FB marketplace and will be silently auctioned off and will benefit a policy charity! More about the guitar to come in the future!
(Don’t worry about the lacquer it’ll buff out 😉)

My father brought this to me 3 weeks ago. A 1960s (exact year unsure) Teisco Bobkat. Had a few hiccups here and there but all together turned out beautifully.
I was unsure what color to paint or stain it, decided to simply oil it after seeing the Mahogany composite body. I left the neck mostly untouched. I felt it needed a piece of its original self. Because of a bad 1/4” cable for my amp I ended up making a whole new pickguard and les Paul style wiring harness featuring some state of the art Korean humbuckers. The pickguard was an old warning sign for an oil company the sign shop I worked at made too many of… did a rough polish to attempt at matching the paint on the original parts.
The Japanese man who made this might be a little upset about the Korean hardware but I’m sure he’ll get over it.
Feel free to contact me about electric guitar restorations. I am currently learning and practicing acoustic guitar restoration.

Isiah 9:10
The bricks have fallen down,
But we will rebuild with smooth stones;
The sycamores have been cut down,
But we will replace them with cedars

Cut down a few cottonwoods and sycamores so I figured I’d keep some to source guitar, uke, and dulcimer parts out of.

Took a break from the box, decided to finish my custom Kaman/Ovation Applause GTX-53 bass, it has a lot of imperfections but I wanted to give it a DIY feel, something a little p***y, and it’s mine, so I don’t mind using testing new (sometimes unsuccessful) techniques on it. It has a PJ bass wiring harness that I custom built myself with two 250k volume pots and a 500k tone pot. It turned out great and I love it, and I won’t make these mistakes again. Lots of learning involved.

Been pretty silent about my current project, but here we are, this is a practice piece that will serve as a “showroom” design for a Bo Diddley style box guitar. Due to the materials in use, this will be an acoustic model serving as a forerunner for hollow body electric and other acoustics. It is oversized but it’s dimensions at the longest and widest portions are similar to a full dreadnought.

Here are the specs as of right now

Body - Pine
Face and back - maple plywood
Braces - oak
Bridge plate - maple
Neck - pine
Fretboard - pine (will be stained)
Frets - medium nickel
Tuners - Classical Style tuners from Washburn
Saddle (w.I.p.) - Oak
Bridge and Nut - nylon

My second official customer is satisfied 👍 he wanted one really large shelf, but due to the lumber market and some stylistic choices we hooked him up with a set of two juniper shelves with handshaped steel brackets!

An Eastern Cottonwood log that I have taken two “Live Sawn” slabs off of one half, and this next half will be used for Quarter (left) and Rift (right) Sawn planks. It it is a soft, and rather plain wood. It is not durable and serves best for painted or stained indoor decorations, guitar bodies, and your less abused homewares.

Some facts about the Eastern Cottonwood:
• If you’re unsure of the workability, sand it, and if it smells like cat p*e, it is not ready.
• It is a relative of the Poplar and Aspen tree.
• It is the state tree of Kansas and Nebraska.
• Pioneers on the Oregon Trail would search for these trees due to their shade and firewood.

Message me for more information, or to talk about using this wood in your next project!
