We are a different kind of a design build firm – misfits of sorts. We like things old and natural: wood, steel, people, buildings, landscapes, and hell any good story. We take these fabrics and weave them into something that is familiar yet new, something that will inspire, simplify and with any luck bring you a smile. We like places and pieces that are smaller, encourage conversation, cultivate h

istorical connections, stimulate thought, and disrupt the status quo. We like things that uplift and unite, that help you break bread, drink coffee or enjoy a whiskey together. We have sawdust on our pants, mud on our boots and a real passion for projects with a soul, a story and a sustainable life cycle.

It’s hard to imagine a better view to sip bourbon and enjoy a fire than the Teton Mountains.

A fun piece of history we incorporated into Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding HQ in Camden.

A 1930’s Tech Dinghy originally commissioned by the owner’s great-grandfather sits above the reception desk welcoming every visitor to the waterfront development. A nod to the company’s past in its new building.

Design for a home we’re working on in the Virgin Islands that will be built from a “kit of parts.” The design uses modular steel components sized on an 8-foot grid for efficient fabrication and shipping. The system speeds up construction, reduces cost, and can withstand hurricanes without sacrificing design. This home will be available for rent - stay tuned.

A throwback to one of our oldest projects.

Nearly as old as the country itself, this carriage house on the historic Salona estate in Mclean stood witness to one of America’s darkest moments.

In 1814, after the British burned the White House, President James Madison fled to Salona for refuge. His horses most likely spent the night in the carriage house while he slept in the Main House.

More than 200 years later, we had the privilege of giving the barn new life. During the renovation we discovered old wagon wheels tucked away in the barn and transformed them into custom dining room pendants. A small nod to the structure’s history.

Lost Whiskey took the #2 spot for Best Distillery in Northern VA.
