SATURDAY AM LATEST SNOW MAP: Confidence is very high in 12-18", and model guidance over the past 24 hours has increased precipitation amounts with each successive run, especially in far southern Maine. Now looking like a good shot of exceeding 18" of snow from around the Portland area south through the York county coastline. Snow ratios look impressive, as high as 20" of snow to an equivalent 1" of rain- and that's about how much liquid equivalent we are expected with this storm along the southern Maine coast. We'll have storm center coverage beginning 6pm tomorrow all the way through Monday early afternoon!

UPDATED SNOWFALL FORECAST...

Yeah, we've increased the numbers as confidence has gone up. This will be a powdery "high ratio" snow. Typically, 1" of liquid produces 10" of snow. In this case, 1" of liquid can easily produce 15" or 18" of snow, given how cold it will be! There also may be some ocean enhancement (cold air blowing over the mild ocean, then on land, scooping up moisture) in southern Maine, which could lead to some higher amounts.

This will be a long storm, more than 24 hours. The heaviest snow will be overnight Sunday night into early Monday morning, 1" to 2" per hour. It keeps snowing at a lighter pace through Monday evening. With temperatures in the teens, this snow can stack up too. Since it's such a cold storm, travel will be challenging through Monday.

FIRST CALL SNOWFALL...

We are still three days away from the meat of this storm, so there will be adjustments to this as needed. The precise timing will also come into focus over the next day or two.

Right now, it looks like snow overspreads southern Maine late Sunday afternoon into the evening. It will take until later at night to reach central and northern Maine.

The heaviest looks to be overnight into Monday morning, but lighter snows continue through the day.

This will be a COLD snowstorm with temperatures in the single digits and teens. It will be powdery, champagne-like snow, not heavy and wet. Fortunately, power outages are not a concern from snow or wind.

A widespread 6" to 12" of snow is expected, with lesser amounts north of Bangor should the current storm track hold. 12" to 18" of snow is likely in parts of York County and southern New Hampshire. This jackpot zone could be expanded into more of southern Maine as we get closer to the storm and confidence goes up.

Keep in touch and follow updates from our weather team.
