Our customer recently bought this adjoining piece of property to expand his current operation and it came with an old over grown and leaking tank that he wanted to turn from a cow pond into to a centerpiece of the property that could be enjoyed by family and the wildlife.
We started by clearing the trees off the actual dam itself and also clearing further into the tree line to provide adequate room to properly expand the width of the damn to make it safe to drive across and also build a slope that was mowable.
Once the clearing was done we got to work removing all the silt and top soil. We hauled the silt to another location to dry out and then be spread in low spots and the usable excess dirt we put on the back side of the dam to expand and build a proper slope.
Rock was also a big issue in this tank. There was a rock shelf surrounding the entire pond so we over excavated the rock and started digging down to find clay. Once we found clay we layered in the clay with proper compaction to provide a sealed clay layer.
We used our machine control laser system to cap the damn perfectly level and set it to a grade that worked well with the natural terrain while also providing enough freeboard to achieve proper drainage with the primary and secondary spillways.
