Our office is under water again.
Tonight our thoughts are with everyone in Elm Grove and the surrounding communities dealing with flooding. We’ve seen firsthand how quickly water can change everything, and our hearts go out to the families, businesses, and first responders working through another difficult situation.
Please stay safe, avoid flooded roadways, and check on your neighbors if you’re able.
As a local business, it’s tough to see our office affected again, but buildings and equipment can be replaced. People cannot. Right now we’re grateful for the safety of our family, crew, and community.
Praying for everyone impacted by this flood. Stay strong, Elm Grove. ❤️🙏

Most people judge a retaining wall by the block they can see.
We judge it by everything underneath it.
Recently, we replaced a failing retaining wall that had no proper base and no drainage system behind it. From the surface, it looked like a wall problem. In reality, it was a foundation problem.
At Backyard Escapes, every retaining wall starts with the things you’ll probably never see:
✅ Proper excavation
✅ Compacted limestone base
✅ Separation fabric to keep soil and stone from mixing
✅ Drainage stone behind the wall
✅ Drain tile to move water away from the structure
Water is the number one enemy of retaining walls. When water has nowhere to go, pressure builds and eventually walls fail.
The truth is, the most important parts of a retaining wall are often buried underground before the first block is ever set.
A beautiful wall is great.

It’s crazy how just a few pavers can completely transform a space.

What was once just another area of the yard is now a place where family and friends can gather, relax, and make memories for years to come. That’s what makes this work so rewarding for us — creating outdoor spaces that actually get used and enjoyed.

We dream about opportunities like this, and a while back we finally got one.

With how busy we've been, we're just now getting around to showing off one of our favorite projects.

This was Backyard Escapes' first true outdoor living project. Over 1,000 square feet of pavers, three custom stone columns, a center bar, and a service bar all built by our team.

A few years ago, projects like this were just goals written down on paper. Today, they're becoming reality because of customers who trust us and a crew that takes pride in their craft.

These homeowners were an absolute pleasure to work for from start to finish. We are truly grateful they chose Backyard Escapes to bring their vision to life.

Projects like this are more than pavers and stone. They're spaces where families gather, friends make memories, and everyday life feels a little more like a vacation.

Sometimes it’s the little details that take a project from “nice” to “wow.” 😎

The customer had extra pavers left over, so instead of letting them sit on a pallet… we decided to add a soldier course around the outdoor bar to give it that clean finished look and make the whole patio pop even more. 🤷🏾‍♂️😜

That’s the difference when you care about the final product. We’re always looking for ways to elevate a project and give our customers something that feels custom and intentional.

This West Virginia weather has been all over the place lately 🌧️☀️❄️ but don’t worry we haven’t forgotten about you

We haven’t planted anything just yet because we’re waiting for the right conditions to make sure everything thrives the way it should

Be patient with us as the weather slowly cooperates. we’ll start getting plants in the ground

Grinding on a Sunday over here at Backyard Escapes 💪🏾
