Hello and howdy to all of you out in Facebook land!! After about a week of being sick and having to play catch up, I've been working like a madman trying to get everything done in my shop. I recently had two belts come in that needed new buckle and attachment straps made for them. This one is over 40 years old and was in REALLY BAD shape!! The buckle strap had broken and the adjustment strap needed to be completely remade due to condition and needed about 4" of extra length. The back piece was dried out and cracked in multiple places. I reconditioned the leather as best as I could. I made the two new pieces and antiqued the old leather and sealed it to match the new pieces. I also put a few extra stitches in the worst places to help give it a little more strength. I finished it off by polishing the buckle and keepers. As always let me know what you think! I've been working on this piece for a while now. The lead singer/Rhythm guitarist for my band Whiskey Runners commission a custom leather exotic guitar strap from me. I finished it last night and it turned out really well. The design process took the longest. I bet I designed this piece at least 6 different ways before I settled on this one!! The top, bottom and adjustment strap are made with Hermann Oak 4-5oz grade B tooling leather. The lining is 2oz pig skin. I also mounted Schaller strap locks to keep the strap secure while using it. The inlays are made out of real ethical sourced African Elephant leather!! This was my first time working with this particular leather. I built in expansion points so that when worn will allow the strap to shape perfectly to his body. This is the reason why the stitching is done the way that it is. For the past couple of days I've been working on a really cool and unique piece. I'm building a custom exotic guitar strap for the Lead Singer/Rhythm guitarist in my band The Whiskey Runners. This one is going to have real Elephant leather inlays!! This is my first time working with this leather and it's turning out really nice!! Once I get it finished I'll make a full build post. In between a couple of other jobs I've been working on a custom leather stick bag for the drummer in my band The Whiskey Runners. This project started when I was organizing some scrap leather and found a piece I'd tooled and carved about 3 years ago as a test piece. I did a little more detail work on the carving and background then blacked and burnished the edges. Then i applied a mahogany antiquing stain. I also had a couple of smallish pieces of red bag leather that I used for the body. Once cut I rolled and pleated the edges and stitched them together. The bag expands to hold 8 drum sticks. I'd like to take a moment to thank all of you for your recent and overwhelming support of Eagle Flats Leather Works !! Six days ago we had 708 followers. As of right now it has grown to over 1300!! Almost double in just shy of a week!! I truly wish I could thank each and every one of you. It is both exciting and truly humbling. We are a small family owned and operated full custom leather shop and every single like, follow and share really helps both our business and my family. There are a lot of new products and projects in development right now that we really think all of you will love.
