There’s a new sheriff in town. Restoration Grazing’s 2026 crew just got a whole human cuter…as if the goats alone weren’t cute enough

Kit, the new collie, is really coming along! She’s got a gentle touch and some great instincts. Rex has been working her in some tight pens with a small group to build up her confidence and the work is really paying off.

Hey everybody! Its been quite a while since we've shared anything with yall and we've had some big changes this fall and winter!

We welcomed our baby girl into the world in January ❤️ im sure many of you will get to meet her this grazing season!

We purchased a resident flock of and two to live with them, Preacher and Bowdrie. They are anatolian x great pyrenees and super cool dogs!

We also purchased a new working dog. A 2yo named Kit! Shes a little ham and will surely add some s***k to the crew this year!

Between caring for baby girl and caring for the sheep and dogs, we havent had a whole lot of free time this winter but its sure been one we won't ever forget!

In March we will receive our grazing goats from our partner in Oklahoma and begin the process of training them to our system so we can bring yall the best value in targeted goat grazing for a 5th year!

Its going to be a great year and were excited to bring yall all these new additions!

Here's some photos documenting some goat impact in a recent paddock. This paddock has a lot of prairie dogs along a semi wet creek bed. Lots of Russian olives, mullin, cat tails, curly dock, and teasle.

The goats really hammer the Russian olives. They strip the bark on them really well, and in my experience, these trees are very susceptible to this herbivory.

A lot of folks are sensitive to grazing in riparian areas, but in this area, the cat tails were just getting too thick. I can only imagine how many gallons of water they drink a day, leaving no water to flow thru the creek bed. The goats did good work on the cat tails. They kinda work from the outside in. Thinned them out a bit and shrunk their area.

The last photo is a rose bush they devoured. Rose is pretty easily eradicated given a few well-timed grazes.

I didn't have a handy photo, but the goats have also been hammering the curly dock seed heads. They'll eat almost 100% of those dark red/brown seed heads, leaving very little for next year's crop.

I love seeing what all they can do. Hammering the land for a short period of time is generally what it wants. We didn't over graze anything, and there's plenty of ground cover to go into winter with.

The goats bring balance to ecosystems that would become a woody weedy mess if left untouched.

Any western grazers have thoughts or grazing based solutions to prairie dogs? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Coyotes are often unfairly persecuted for their roles in predation on livestock and deer populations. I dont think it's a fair judgment of the coyotes, tho. They're just doing what they need to do to survive. They are fairly easy to steer away from your stock. Hot electric fence is really all you need, maybe a LGD.

These animals have such a cool history. In the 1800's and early 1900's incredible amounts of money were spent by the government to eradicate America of wolves, lions, and coyotes. In Montana the state government allocated over half of the entire states budget to killing these predators. These efforts mostly worked on wolves and lions but for some reason, Coyotes flourished to just about every corner of North America.

Coyotes are a kind of deity in Native American cultures, and for good reason. They are incredibly smart and have this cool and cunning aire about them. They can adapt to just about any environment. They can be herbivores, carnivores, or omnivorous. They can live in a pack or be solo coyotes and do just fine.

People often tell me they heard the coyotes howling like crazy. I say, if you hear them howling that means they ain't hunting so dont worry about the goats!
