Contractor rant (Please support your local businesses like 316 Custom Landscaping):

I am not big on social media, but I feel compelled to share the theft that happened this morning to my company. I am proud to call Derby, KS my hometown since the age of five and I have lived here for 30+ years now. We pride ourselves in being a “one stop shop” for landscaping needs for everyone in the Derby area and surrounding communities. Unfortunately, around 6:30 am today an individual(s) thought it to be a good idea to steal one our company trucks, dump trailers and skid steer and think nothing of it. Aside from stealing those three major assets from our company, they also stole approximately $8-10k in tools and other essential equipment that make our company operate. Altogether, we had approximately $110,000 in assets stolen from us this morning. The amounts do not matter because (as business owners, it is why we have insurance and will always do so).

We hope to recover what was stolen from us, but I urge all of you to consider the next time you hire a contractor why they might be “more expensive or slightly more expensive,” and it’s because of this very scenario, we have to cover expenses that could potentially expose us like having a truck, trailer and skid steer stolen. All of which support our families and livelihood.

We won’t let this hold us back or stiffen our growth, but I hope whether it is 316 Custom Landscaping or any other contractor that you look at the company as a whole and not go with who is “cheapest”, rather choose who is suited best to complete your project.
