I just finished Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, and this book was not really what I expected.

The biggest thing I took from it is that success starts long before you actually become successful.

You need a definite purpose. You need to be able to imagine the person you want to become. And then you have to keep moving toward it, even through failure.

One line that really stopped me said that people seldom enter their most creative years before the age of forty.

I'm 32.

And instead of making me feel like I have to hurry up, it made me realize how much time I still have to take everything I've learned and actually build something with it.

Hill also talks about a "sixth sense." I didn't really buy into that at first. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that maybe it's what happens when years of experience, failure, knowledge, and instinct finally start working together.

I know where I want to go.

Now it's about building the path to get there.

That's what I'm taking away from Think and Grow Rich.

2 Acres. Cut Once a Year. What Would You Charge?

Back at a familiar property for another yearly brush hogging job!

I mow this roughly 2-acre field once a year, and it's always impressive how much growth can come back in just one season. What starts as a thick, overgrown field gets knocked back and cleaned up with the Kioti CK3510 and brush hog.

Jobs like this are exactly why I enjoy tractor work. You get to see the difference immediately, and regular maintenance helps keep fields from becoming completely overtaken by tall grass, weeds, and brush.

Day 3 and the Stoney Ridge cleanup is officially complete!

We started the day by hauling a load of horse manure out to the field for next year's fertilizer, then it was back to cleaning up the remaining scrap.

The first scrap load brought in $111, but the big job was getting the old camper frame loaded up and hauled to the scrap yard.
After three days of cleanup, loading, hauling, brush hogging, and moving scrap, the property looks completely different.

And after all the work getting that camper frame loaded?

It was worth just $58 at the scrap yard.

That's a wrap on the 3-day Stoney Ridge cleanup. Now it's on to the next Tompkins Hired Hand job!

Day 2 of the Stoney Ridge Cleanup turned into a serious trash-removal day!

We started the morning pulling old tires out of the overgrowth with the Kioti CK3510 and grapple. By the time the first dump run was loaded, we had removed an incredible 1,480 pounds of tires from the property.

And that was only the first load.

After the tire run, it was back to work digging out rolls of old landscape fabric, cleaning up more debris, and tearing apart an old camper that had been sitting buried in the overgrowth.

By the end of Day 2, the second dump trailer was loaded with another 3,100 pounds of material and Stoney Ridge was finally starting to look like a completely different property.

For Day 1, I put the Kioti CK3510 to work clearing overgrowth, moving brush, and starting to bring this property back under control. There’s still a LOT of work ahead, and this is only the beginning.

What do you get when you hire Tompkins Hired Hand?

You get more than a tractor showing up to get a job done.

You get a father of three building a small business one job at a time, trying to show his kids what hard work, responsibility, and following a dream actually look like.

This job brought me back to Stoney Ridge, a repeat customer who has continued to trust Tompkins Hired Hand with their property. This time, I was back on the Kioti knocking down overgrown areas and getting the property cleaned back up.

Repeat customers mean a lot to a small business like mine. When someone calls me back for another job, I don't take that for granted. It means they trusted the work the first time enough to put my name on the next one.

Tompkins Hired Hand isn't my full-time job. It's what I'm building after it—one evening, one weekend, one customer, and one job at a time.

I'm not trying to build the biggest company overnight. I'm trying to build something I'm proud to put my name on, provide great work for the people who hire me, and hopefully create something my kids can look back on someday and say, "Dad built that."
