We are gearing up for a busy weekend! Come on out tomorrow for the 2nd annual strawberry festival at Stephens City Farmers Market 9-1 then we are headed back at Unique Creations Studio Sunday 10-3 for their monthly makers market! Come on out and see us along with all of the other amazing vendors!

We finally were able to try out our outside workshop. This evening I prepared pickled brussel sprouts and pickled green beans along with plain green beans. This new process allowed me to can 17 jars and water bath when i was only able to water bath 6 jars at one time. The kids played all evening outside while I was working and enjoyed a hot dog on the fire! I will never go back to kitchen canning again.

Little does everyone know, we actually have 2 small businesses! The Mr and our middle boy do european mounts during hunting season. Since they don't keep the bottom of the deer jaw, our oldest decided he wanted to take those jaws and make another homemade item for his business. We added another crucial part of our outside canning! Not only will your yummy canned goods be water bathed outside, they will also be prepared outside on a stainless steel processing table. This table will allow us to prepare more canned goods, cut back on any possible cross contamination, not spending hours in a 90+ degree kitchen and bringing back how our ancestors used to harvest!

We had a "slower" morning that I finally got to enjoy warm coffee! The kids are excited about their onions, spinach and lettuce batches are starting to sprout. Their seedlings have sprouted and ready to be transplanted into bigger containers then into the ground

Thank you to everyone that came out to see us today and support our oldest with his first market. He walked away with $18 but it was worth $1000 to him. A lot of lessons were learned and he can't wait to do it again.

We decided to celebrate his first market by getting a beautiful flower arrangement from Moon Base Farms and the kids wanted to stop and see their favorite sausage/meat lady from Apple Hill Farm to get some fresh sage sausage they absolutely love for tomorrows breakfast and a juicy whole chicken for supper tomorrow.

We can't wait to go back next week!

While we are headed back to the Stephens City Farmers Market tomorrow our oldest will be setting up his own table with his creations he's worked hard making and painting along with some plants he's transplanted. He is very excited to be setting up alongside his me. So come on out and see what he's got!
