The box comes with a 2045 opening date and a set of instructions Parton wrote herself, down to how to play the recording she left inside.
She explained it in an interview on "The Tonight Show," telling Jimmy Fallon she'd stored the song on a CD along with a player and the steps for using it, since that was the technology of the moment. "I wrote a song, and I put it in the box to be opened," she said.
Parton died Tuesday in Nashville at 80. The song she wrote for a year she wasn't sure she'd see is still locked away in Pigeon Forge, waiting for a date that's now 19 years off.
