As a continuation of yesterday's post, here's our final thoughts and review of the Toro 4000.
Toro 4000
The Toro 4000 has a 31 horsepower carbureted Kawasaki engine. This particular unit is equipped with a 60" deck. The Toro 4000 has the MyRide Suspension system for the operator's platform. Top speed is roughly 12mph. Parking brake is a lever on the left side of the seat. The deck lift is electric via a rocker switch on the left control handle.
The Toro 4000 did very well on our normal city weekly lawn maintenance accounts. We had no issues with the mower bogging in any way while mowing even wet, tall, thick grass. We felt very comfortable on sidehills with it, but we felt a bit more comfortable wide the Wright ZXT on hills due to its wide stance and aggressive tread pattern on the tires. The Toro 4000 does an unbelievable job striping lawns with no striping kit installed. The Wright ZXT did a decent job striping, but not to the same level as the Toro. On the baseball fields, the Toro 4000 performed very well with little to no issues.
On the baseball fields, we had no issues with mowing at full speed comfortably for long durations with the Toro. The MyRide Suspension system is smoother and rides better than Wright's Long Travel Suspension system in our opinion. There were only a few areas of the baseball fields that were to bumpy to mow at full speed, but about 90% of the fields were mowed at full speed. We feel that the controls were smoother than the Wright and didn't cause nearly as much jerking motion in the controls when going over rough terrain.
There are a couple things that we don't particularly like or feel like could be changed though. Firstly, although the carberated Kawasaki didn't give us any real issues, it would be nice to have an EFI engine on this machine. Just for fuel economy and ease of starting in cooler weather. We are not sold on the electric deck lift. It is very handy for some applications, but it lifts and lowers a bit slow in our opinion. We found that we would have to slow down when we got near a tree root or a curb that we needed to lift the deck over so that the deck lift would have enough to lift up before we got to whatever we were trying to lift overtop of. We also feel that this is another part to go bad and will need to be replaced in the long run. If we could have a manual deck lift on a MyRide model, we feel that this would be the best As a continuation of yesterday's post, here's our final thoughts and review of the Toro 4000. But that is not currently offered.
The price on a Toro 4000 60" through Schlabach Engine in Applecreek, Ohio is $11,299. They are sold out right now.
Overall, we would choose the Toro 4000 over the Wright ZXT. The Toro is a bit more refined than the Wright in our opinion. Although the Wright ZXT is a bigger machine than the Toro by specs, the Toro 4000 will do everything we need it to do for our operation.
Thank you to Schlabach Engine in Applecreek, Ohio for the Toro 4000 demo!
