๐ŸŒˆ GRASS-to-FOODSCAPE ๐ŸŒˆ I was contacted by a family of clients desiring to turn their side yard from grass to food production oasis. They already had planted out 12 fruit trees in their yard, but hoped to add plant guilds to support each tree, berries and their companions, a cut flower garden, as well as a to produce the bulk of their annual produce year-round. As with all of my designs, I'm concerned with creating "closed-loop" systems that provide all that's needed to care for the space itself, so this is outfitted with a 3-bin compost pile, surrounding "compost-builder" and fertilizing garden, vegetation meant to provide a sustainable, regenerative source of "mulch" for all the food-producers, as well as mulch pathways they're to harvest compost from each spring + fall and then replenish with another layer of wood chips from ChipDrop to continue the cycle. A deer-deterrent, food-producing border lines the most susceptible edge of the area, and native, food-producing vegetation has been included around the remaining perimeter for biodiversity in food-supply as well as to provide food + habitat for native wildlife.

โœ… Because I specialize in working with clients who plan on installing themselves, this design came with the shopping list for vegetation + materials as well as a set of phased, step-by-step installation instructions meant to walk them through the installation, harvest, and maintenance of the itself. Would you like something abundant and sustainable designed for you and your yard? Reach out for a consultation today!ย I serve clients worldwide and am presently booking designs with delivery dates of late-fall 2026. ๐Ÿ’š ABUNDANCE ๐Ÿ’š Each day, I head out into my front yard to collect whatever bounty it has to offer and then come up with meals based upon what's most abundant. Not pictured are asparagus and loads of beans I harvested as well. Tonight we're having pizzas with fermented salsa as the "sauce", topped with fresh chopped garlic, onions, peppers, and basil from the garden. The mozzarella and parmesan that will accompany the veg + herbs was bought in bulk from my favorite discount grocery store ( in New Carlisle, OH). Sauteed beans and asparagus will be served on the side. I love how simple fresh meals are to put together this time of year. I'm unbelievably grateful for our yard turned grocery store!

๐ŸŒˆ Growing a garden is one of the kindest things you can do for yourself, and it's a beautiful way to save money and ensure you're spending loads of time outdoors. If you'd like to start growing more of your own food, reach out for a consultation today! I serve clients worldwide and would love nothing more than to be a part of your food growth journey!ย

โŒ๐ŸฆŸ STOP FOGGING ๐ŸฆŸโŒ The answer to an over-inundation of mosquitos should never be fogging, because this method also kills one of the most effective, natural remedies... dragonflies (and a plethora of other beneficial life)! I never get bitten by mosquitos in my front yard and that's because I have a biodiverse ecosystem built up that keeps everything in balance, organically. Bats, birds, dragonflies, and other life gobble up all the excess pests, and in return, I enjoy my time outside without getting bitten!

๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’š An adult dragonfly will eat 30-100 mosquitos each day and you can attract them to your yard by maintaining a pesticide-free yard, ensuring there's ample, layered ecosystem (native wildflowers and grasses of varying heights), and maintaining a water feature of some sort that's at least 2' deep and in full-sun, so their larvae can develop underwater. If you live near a body of water, they're already nearby and no water feature is needed, but it certainly helps.

๐ŸŒˆ If you'd like to learn more about how you can organically maintain your yard and/or grow more of your own food, reach out for a consultation today. I serve clients worldwide and would love nothing more than to help you along on your journey!

๐ŸŒป SUMMER FOOD FOREST ๐ŸŒป Late-summer is such an abundant, lively time on our homestead. It's been hard to keep up with all the food generated by our front yard and other food production elements on our 1-acre, but these are just the "problems" I signed up for and find myself pining for in January and February each year, so I'm filled with gratitude. Most of our meals have been coming "from the yard" and what we can't consume fresh is either shared with our chickens or rabbits, or becomes preserved for use throughout the fall + winter months. I feel so cared for by my property and am so thankful I get to meander its "aisles"; grabbing my food fresh-as-can-be and at-whim!

๐ŸŒˆ Would you like to turn your yard into your grocery store too, but don't know where to begin?! That's my specialty. We can meet for a consultation (virtual if you're outside of my local service range) to hatch a plan together, and/or you can have me create a custom design for you that comes with the shopping list for vegetation + materials, as well as the step-by-step installation instructions to see your dream space to fruition! ๐ŸŒˆ SEPTEMBER TOURS ๐ŸŒˆ September is my favorite month on my 1-acre homestead and I'm so looking forward to sharing it with everyone set to come out for the next round of tours! I'll likely have one more round in early-October, but this is one you won't want to miss as my front yard is dotted in a sea of blooms and abundance can be found everywhere you look! My goal as a solo-homesteader is to generate 80% of the resources needed to sustain our existence within 10 years' time and we're 4 years in and I can't wait to show you all I have in the works. We'll begin the tour in my 5000 SF front yard food forest, and then meander over to the mushroom gardens, 5000 SF chicken food forest, fruit + nut orchard, earth-sheltered greenhouse/ rabbit warren where I raise my Silver Fox does in a colony, and finish the tour in the deer-resistant berry patch.

๐Ÿ’š My hope in opening up my space, is to show you what's possible, as one person, on 1 acre of land. My goal as a business and as a person is to make gardening and homesteading attainable for everyone and I so look forward to showing you around and sharing how I've made it possible as 1 person with 2 children and 2 small businesses. Registration is limited, so if you'd like to join, you can register under the "classes + tours" tab on my website (โœจLINK BELOWโœจ). See you soon, to everyone coming out!

โŒ NOT A "W**D" โŒ Do you have THIS beauty of a plant growing in your yard or garden and pull it, thinking itโ€™s a w**d?! IT ISNโ€™T! Itโ€™s a "bonus" vegetable! This is and itโ€™s grown as a vegetable in Mexico, parts of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East and itโ€™s just as delicious as it is healthy! The stems, leaves, and flowers are all edible and it can be used in the same way you use spinach. It contains the highest recorded concentration of omega 3 fatty acids of any green or leafy vegetable! It's also high in vitamins A and E, and is a source of vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron, melatonin and more! Here in North America, we often mistakenly think it a w**d and pull it. I encourage you to leave it be and cook with it or I add it to my smoothies each day. Note: Like spinach, beets, rhubarb, etc., it's high in oxalic acid. So, if you're sensitive, consume accordingly.

๐Ÿ˜ Outside of it being a highly nutritious and scrumptious plant, it also boasts a wide array of other "superpowers" and makes an incredible groundcover, works to prevent erosion, provides food and habitat for wildlife, and it's a distinct, charming plant that provides ornamental appeal too! Next time you see what you think is a โ€œw**dโ€ in your yard, look it up and learn about its superpowers because who knows what gifts youโ€™re missing out on by yanking it!

๐ŸŒˆ Would you like to grow more of your own food, but don't know where to begin? Reach out for a consult today! I serve clients worldwide and would love nothing more than to help you along on your gardening and/or homesteading journey. Also, be sure to check out my full line of "ready-to-go" garden designs that include plans for annual raised beds. You can opt to snag a plan per raised bed, or you can pick up a plan for growing annual food year-round! ๐Ÿฅ— FOOD > GRASS ๐Ÿฅ— Why grow grass when you can grow food, flowers, and herbs instead?! This portion of my front yard used to house overflow parking and as such, it started out as nothing but crushed limestone with grass growing up through it here and there. I wanted food + flowers instead, so in late-winter of 2022, I topped it all with wood mulch and then popped my raised beds right on top of that; filling them with nutrient-dense compost + soil that would nourish the food that'd be housed here. At present, it's planted out with squash, melon, pumpkins, cucumbers, beans, cosmos, zinnias, and in the distance, you can see grapes growing along the fenceline to my front yard , with mushrooms being produced beneath that, just right off my driveway. Just inside the fence sits apple, cherry, fig, plum trees and elderberry + hazelnut shrubs surrounded by supportive plant communities that are meant to care for the life of the main food-producers; supplying them with regenerative sources of fertilizer and "mulch" that are grown right where they're needed!

๐ŸŒˆ Would you like to convert some or all of your grass-to-garden, but don't know where to begin? That's my specialty! We can meet for a consultation (virtual if you're outside of my local service range) to hatch a plan together, and/or you can have me create a custom design for you that comes with the shopping list for vegetation + materials, as well as the step-by-step installation instructions to see your dream space to fruition! โœ๏ธ DESIGN SKETCH โœ๏ธ Here's a sketch of my latest design for a family of clients residing in Aurora, Ohio; a side yard and with an edible, deer-resistant (and in some areas deer-deterrent) hedge. They reached out to me because they wanted to replace their grass-covered side yard with an edible garden oasis that would provide food + cut flowers for their family and you know I was immediately on-board!

โœ… All of my designs begin with a hand sketch that allows my brain to play + freely think through all the details in a tactile way. Once I've thought through the basic layout, I move to creating a polished, digital version to ensure the finished design is easy-to-interpret for my clients; most of whom install my designs themselves. Because I specialize in working with DIY clients, each of my designs comes with the shopping list for vegetation + materials as well as the step-by-step installation instructions!
